Virus King - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Mutant ‘Flesh Mountain’! Is This Even Human?
TL: YYang
“Director Song, what are you doing here?!”
“Director Song, there’s a monster just up ahead. Tell the driver to stop going forward!”
“Yeah! That monster wasn’t even fazed by submachine guns or grenades—it’s terrifying! No human could possibly deal with that. I bet even a tank would get smashed with one slap!”
“…”
The sheer contrast between life and death left them panting heavily, like drowning men finally reaching shore. These two immediately began to recount the horror they’d just escaped.
The scene had been horrifying enough to shatter their worldview all over again. Listening to them, Chen Bai raised an eyebrow, his mind turning over these words.
If it wasn’t harmed at all by grenades, then this mutant’s strength must far surpass his expectations.
But an opponent like that was perfect!
Because only such a powerful mutant could unleash the zombie virus’ potential, finally allowing him to gather enough evolution points.
“By the way, Director Song, where are you headed?” Lu Li asked curiously.
At this point, the chaos in Jiangcheng, and indeed across all countries on Blue Star, was obvious to all. Why wasn’t this Director Song staying put? What was she doing wandering around?!
Looking at the curious beauty from Jiangcheng, Song Ziqiong smiled slightly, rolling down the backseat window as the car slowly passed their previous van.
Song Ziqiong pointed to a spot in the distance, the hellish site that Lu Li and Xiao Zhou had just escaped.
“To there…”
Lu Li’s face instantly turned pale as she looked toward the distant factory.
Xiao Zhou, even more bluntly, said, “Uh, Director Song, maybe we should just get out here. We don’t want to trouble you!”
If they ran on their own, maybe they’d survive a little longer. Voluntarily delivering themselves right into the thick of it—what sense did that make?
However, Song Ziqiong only gave a faint smile, not even bothering to respond to Xiao Zhou. Before or after the apocalypse, he wasn’t worth a second look.
As for Lu Li, however, she hadn’t noticed until now. On closer inspection, she was indeed quite attractive.
Though it was unclear how her personal life was.
If Chen Bai could rise to power in this chaotic world, how to best secure her own position would be a critical question for Song Ziqiong.
After all, Song Ziqiong never doubted that there was no shortage of capable and beautiful women in this world.
Anyone with enough skill could potentially replace her.
She was an ambitious woman.
The terrified Lu Li, watching the car head toward that chemical factory in horror and despair, had no idea that she was already being sized up by this scheming Director Song as a pawn in the power game.
Chen Bai exhaled slowly, the smell of gunpowder particularly pungent.
Finally, under everyone’s watchful eyes, the vehicle came to a halt.
The car door opened once again.
And Chen Bai stepped out.
Like everyone else, his gaze landed instantly on the distant chemical factory, smoke billowing, bright red blood splattering out like grotesque street graffiti.
“Ah…”
A shrill scream cut through the air.
The guards, as if finally grasping the reality of the situation, realized even their submachine guns were useless for protection. They fled in a frenzy.
Chen Bai’s presence stunned them, though.
The leading guard wiped the blood from his face and shouted, “Get out of here! This is a military base; no onlookers allowed!”
Despite the dire situation, the guard still retained a shred of decency. Chen Bai smiled slightly, then, under everyone’s shocked gazes, walked forward at a steady pace.
Finally, in Chen Bai’s line of sight, the giant creature revealed its true form.
So, it was this thing!
Chen Bai’s eyes narrowed as he took in the creature before him.
The evolution of the zombie virus had split zombies into different paths.
There were the mentally focused ones, highly intelligent, able to command other zombies and incite zombie waves and mental attacks—the “Lords.”
Then there were those purely focused on speed and strength—the “Tyrants.”
And there were also those with various abilities and elemental powers, known as “Aberrants.”
Of course, beyond these, there were many special mutants that appeared in smaller numbers.
And the creature before him, which could increase its power by devouring other zombies and even humans, had a unique designation.
‘Flesh Mountain’
The almost limitless growth potential and formidable constitution of this creature made it the most fearsome presence among the zombie horde.
In any apocalyptic tide of undead, the Flesh Mountain would always be at the forefront, leading the way with sheer brutality.
It was unexpected for such a rare and advanced mutant to appear so early in Jiangcheng!
Chen Bai’s gaze was calm, devoid of any trace of human fear.
As Chen Bai laid eyes on the massive figure, the Flesh Mountain also seemed to lock its gaze onto him.
From the moment Chen Bai appeared, the entire focus of the Flesh Mountain shifted to him alone!
The ten or so humans who had fled, it no longer found worth its attention.
But this human before it—this one hadn’t run away, hadn’t even brought any weapons that could scratch its itch!
And most importantly, in the depths of its primitive instincts, every gene and every trace of zombie virus within it screamed one clear message:
Devour this human!
Devour him, and it would become even more powerful!
Unparalleled power!
With a roar of excitement, its evil, bloodthirsty eyes filled with unbridled anticipation.
Its thick, massive arm swung horizontally, a brutal slap aimed directly at that lone figure.
It’s over!
Seeing the Flesh Mountain’s massive frame yet surprisingly swift attack, Lu Li, Xiao Zhou, and the guards who had witnessed that arm turn humans, bones, and even steel weapons into mangled wrecks—all shut their eyes, unwilling to watch another second!
But almost by reflex, they quickly reopened their eyes. They, too, wanted one more look at this strange young man, to see why he had come to court death!
What they saw, however, left every single person rooted to the spot.
For that horrifying, tree-trunk-sized hand, which swung down like a wall, was met with a single punch from that lone figure standing calmly in place!
Bang!
The sound was a deep, echoing thud! The massive hand and the much smaller fist collided.
It felt as if a giant hammer had slammed into the hearts of everyone present!
The terrifying force of that attack, capable of reducing a human to pulp, came to an abrupt halt in front of this man, unable to push even an inch further.
Was this…human?
