Chapter 9: Exploitation! New Evolution and Awakening!

Chu Xin felt she must have gone mad!

A man she’d just met that very day, and yet she’d gone this far with him.

The sound of splashing water from the bathroom left Chu Xin feeling restless for the first time in her life.

But when she thought about that heroic figure who’d shielded her, Chu Xin’s heart firmed up in an instant.

This wasn’t madness!

This was release!

“Ding-dong…”

The crisp notification on her phone sounded, and Chu Xin absently glanced over.

[Xin’er, where are you?! I heard you were attacked at the hospital this year?]

[Are you alright?!]

[Where are you? Do you need me to come get you by car? What do you want to eat tonight…]

Seeing Liu Feng’s messages pop up on WeChat, Chu Xin frowned slightly. She had almost replied when the water stopped abruptly, and that figure emerged from the bathroom.

Chu Xin felt as if all the blood in her body had rushed to her head. Any thoughts of responding to the “licking dogs” and the various “fish in her pond”—all of it was nonsense!

All because the man before her was just too perfect.

The muscles on his body, which hadn’t been noticeable before, were unlike anything she’d ever seen on another man—perfect in every way!

Seeing Chu Xin’s tear-streaked face, Chen Bai hadn’t expected that this young nurse, who could be so quickly intimate with a man she’d just met, still possessed a certain innocence.

This realization brought a rare flicker of guilt to Chen Bai, who had only intended to use her.

He quickly got to the point:

“In the hospital, you have access to samples of blood infected with various viruses, right?”

Chu Xin was momentarily stunned but nodded: “Yes, why?”

“Would you be able to get me some? HIV, Ebola, any of those would work…”

“H…HIV…”

Chu Xin’s face turned ashen at once, looking at Chen Bai in horror.

Chen Bai sighed; HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, was clearly an unsuitable subject for this particular moment.

He helplessly gave her a light tap on the head:

“What are you thinking?! I don’t have anything like that. If you don’t believe me, you can go get tested tomorrow! But I do need those viral blood samples. Can you get them?”

Hearing Chen Bai’s reassurance, Chu Xin finally breathed a sigh of relief, patting her bouncing chest, though she still seemed hesitant:

“This… it’s a bit difficult. The lab department watches that stuff closely… plus…”

Before she could finish, Chen Bai’s expression turned cold:

“It’s no good? Fine, then I’ll ask someone else…”

He made as if to leave, and Chu Xin quickly interrupted:

“It’s not impossible… it’s just… just…”

Watching her struggle, Chen Bai spoke:

“Relax, I promise this isn’t anything illegal. You saw my ID; I’m just a student at Jiangcheng University. I need it for research, and once it’s done, everything will be destroyed!”

The man’s sweet words worked wonders.

Though Chen Bai did feel a slight pang of guilt using such an innocent young woman, he was clear on the stakes. In these precious, fleeting days before the apocalypse fully broke out, he hadn’t spent hours with her just to indulge in meaningless desires!

As he watched the little nurse fall asleep happily in his arms, Chen Bai’s expression returned to calm.

In the apocalypse, unless a woman possessed her own formidable strength, she was nothing but a cheap commodity.

Of course, for someone like Chu Xin—especially in a certain type of uniform—the price might be slightly higher.

But that was all there was to it.

In his past life, even though he’d survived partly on the “soft rice” of the Dark Mother Goddess, she had never restricted him in this regard.

Other than enduring strange looks from elderly patients at the hospital, his primary source of Evolution Points had come from killing that zombie and extracting points from it.

Chen Bai discovered that with his Virus Sovereign ability, any virus that came into contact with his body could be directly converted into Evolution Points.

It vanished entirely.

The nightmarish thought of his body becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses seemed unlikely.

He hadn’t yet spent his Evolution Points but instead moved back to the large evolution tree to consider his options. Within the viral evolution system, he looked toward a particular branch:

Chen Bai’s brows shot up as he glanced at his current Evolution Points. Without hesitation, he activated this talent branch and invested the remaining points into strengthening his control over the Darklight Virus.

Chen Bai suddenly felt a powerful surge in his heartbeat.
