Virus King - Chapter 82
Chapter 82: Mutant Giant Rat! A Life-or-Death Moment!
TL: Yang
Song Ziqiong’s face was somber.
Her dark purple eyes appeared slightly dimmer at this moment.
She had not rested for two whole days and nights.
Though she had become an Evolver, with her relatively low constitution, such constant strain was still far beyond her limits.
But Song Ziqiong had never anticipated the overwhelming number and speed of the crises emerging under this apocalypse.
After resolving the zombie threat, it was far from smooth sailing.
Whether it was the necessity to intimidate incoming Evolvers or the plague of rats that had erupted at midnight and lasted until dawn, these were all catastrophic threats to a settlement just starting to form!
“Damn apocalypse!”
Song Ziqiong slammed the table in front of her.
If it weren’t for the magnetic disturbances caused by the apocalypse, they could have used submachine guns, flamethrowers, and other firepower to show those rats what “roasted rat” really meant.
But as it was, they could only rely on cold weapons and hand-to-hand combat by the Evolvers themselves—making it exceedingly difficult!
The small sense of unity she’d managed to gather had, after just one night, scattered once more, causing no small amount of chaos.
It was maddening!
Song Ziqiong felt a pang of helplessness. If they’d had a few more days, the Flesh Mountain Wall would’ve started to take shape. As long as they could clear and enclose the forest area, the rats wouldn’t be so impossible to guard against!
Now, though, everyone was on edge. Even her own handful of people couldn’t quickly deal with the infestation!
However, just as Song Ziqiong was growing restless and irritable, Leng Shuang rushed in, her face showing a hint of panic despite her composure.
Seeing the look on Leng Shuang’s face, Song Ziqiong’s expression turned grim. She’d heard enough bad news tonight.
Clearly, though, this time’s news was even worse.
“Sister Qiong, it’s bad! A stronger mutant rat has appeared in the villa district. It might be the Rat King! Several of our people have already died to that beast!”
Our people died there?!
Song Ziqiong felt her vision blur.
Those people were her real foundation, her trump cards.
Losing even one was a heavy blow!
A fierce look flashed in Song Ziqiong’s eyes.
“Take me there—I’m killing those beasts!”
In that moment, Queen Song finally exuded a sliver of killing intent!
The words of that man involuntarily surfaced in her mind.
In this apocalypse, there was only one thing anyone could truly rely on.
And that was their own strength.
However, when Song Ziqiong actually saw the giant rat, she couldn’t help but gasp.
If the other mutant rats were around the size of large dogs, then the one before her in the villa district was as big as a calf.
And the most terrifying thing was that, despite its enormous size, it was not even a bit slower. This colossal rat charged forward, resembling an unstoppable tank.
Even without its sharp incisors, merely colliding with some Evolvers would be enough to instantly end their lives.
Song Ziqiong understood this creature better than most.
For at that moment, her dark purple eyes suddenly glowed with light!
Information about the massive rat, now facing off against dozens of Evolvers, appeared before her:
[Mutant Giant Rat (Level 5)]
[Strength: 18]
[Agility: 20]
[Constitution: 19]
[Spirit: 3]
[Due to the vast level difference, further details are unobtainable!]
Such terrifying attributes!
Even Song Ziqiong drew in a sharp breath.
With stats like these, if Evolvers only relied on level-ups to gain strength—two free attribute points per level—it would take them more than ten levels just to barely match this creature!
Thankfully, Evolvers could gain advantages through personal talents, equipment, and skill improvements. Otherwise, catching up to these freakishly powerful creatures would be nearly impossible.
But even so, this creature was not something ordinary people could handle.
Indeed, the bodies lying nearby proved just how much terror this mutant giant rat had inspired!
Some instinctively took a step back, while others, under the giant rat’s gaze, stood firm, desperately holding their ground!
The forged steel blades in their hands, though not acquired loot, were without a doubt the most trustworthy weapons!
“Squeak, squeak, squeak…”
The bloodthirsty, crimson eyes seemed to sense something, suddenly locking onto Song Ziqiong in the distance.
Identification-type skill talents were indeed practical, but attempting to identify such high-level creatures was nothing short of suicidal.
And right now, Song Ziqiong was doing just that!
The giant rat seemed to feel provoked at that instant, shifting its gaze away from the other Evolvers and fixing on Song Ziqiong at the far end of its sightline.
She felt her whole body tense, and in the next moment, that giant rat charged toward her like a small vehicle!
“Madam!”
Among the guards, some remained unmoved, even sighing in relief, while others looked horrified, rushing forward to intervene. Leng Shuang, in particular, leaped directly in front of Song Ziqiong to shield her.
In that instant, the villa district’s varied loyalties were on full display.
Yet, the giant rat’s speed was beyond imagination.
Leng Shuang had witnessed it firsthand several times before—its charges were powerful enough to turn a person into a bloody pulp upon impact.
Even so, she charged forward resolutely!
But the dagger in her hand offered her no confidence.
Countless Evolvers raced toward them, yet their speed couldn’t match the terrifying rat’s, forcing them to watch helplessly as the vicious creature barreled toward Leng Shuang and Song Ziqiong!
Their eyes were wide with desperation!
For without Song Ziqiong, their families might have suffered the same tragic fate as countless others at the start of the apocalypse.
Their current positions and power were due to her.
Their gratitude toward Song Ziqiong was real, as was their awe and respect for that man.
If anything happened to her now, what would they do when Chen Bai returned?
But it was too late for words!
The giant rat was too fast.
Its speed made intercepting it nothing but wishful thinking. Yet, just as Leng Shuang gritted her teeth, raising her dagger to buy Song Ziqiong time to escape—
A black and red streak shot down like a bolt from the heavens!
The monstrous, tank-like giant rat was halted mid-charge, stopped in its tracks.
The force of its charge only resulted in the giant rat being violently flung backward, as if it had struck an invisible wall of energy, producing no further tremor, as though it had collided with an intangible barrier!
It wasn’t until everyone focused that they saw it clearly:
In this critical moment, a human figure had appeared there!
A figure that, just last night, had captivated everyone’s attention!
