Virus King - Chapter 67
Chapter 67: Secret Realm Dungeon: The Cooling Incinerator!
TL: Yang
Nothing?!
Still nothing?!
All afternoon, he had checked every possible place he could think of!
But still, he found nothing!
Chen Bai furrowed his brows.
With his knowledge of secret realm dungeon entrances, if there had been any tiny alteration or difference, he would have noticed it immediately!
But from the first to the sixth floors of this virus research institute—a total of more than thirty labs—Chen Bai had inspected every single corner thoroughly!
And yet, he still hadn’t found the so-called entrance to the secret realm!
“Are you sure there’s no basement in this research institute?!”
Chen Bai looked around the virus research institute, which he had practically stripped down to the ceilings and even climbed through the elevator shafts to search, and asked with a hint of doubt.
Although he hadn’t dug down three feet, he’d gotten pretty close!
Emily nodded, looking at Chen Bai, who was starting to seem more and more fearsome.
Chen Bai’s brows furrowed again.
He stood before an unmarked laboratory in the research institute, lost in deep thought.
He had already absorbed all of the original virus samples!
Chen Bai glanced at the setting sun on the western horizon.
As night approached, the zombie horde would become even more active, and he feared that evolution would start taking hold among them. There was also a much higher chance that mutants would appear in greater numbers than before.
If he were focused on slaughter and leveling up, it wouldn’t be an issue.
However, if he continued his search for the secret realm dungeon after nightfall, the difficulty would increase dramatically!
And from what Redo had implied, this secret realm dungeon was likely quite special. If he failed to find it in time, he risked failing the mission altogether!
Where could it be?!
Redo had mentioned that it was connected to his talent.
The problem was, after spending the entire afternoon searching and finding nothing in the virus research institute, Chen Bai had also scoured the medical school building.
Still nothing!
The question was, besides those places, where else could there be in this medical school?!
If it were in the staff dormitories, that would just be absurd!
Chen Bai’s mood turned irritable.
He swung his arm abruptly, shattering a nearby human skeleton model into powder!
He knew, however, that his frustration was utterly useless.
And yet, at that very moment, Chen Bai froze.
He turned his head slowly to look at the skeletal model.
Suddenly, he recalled that there was indeed one place he hadn’t thoroughly checked!
This was a place that no student would willingly bring up, yet was an essential facility in every medical school!
Chen Bai spun around sharply, looking at Emily in front of him:
“Where is the morgue in the medical school?!”
At the mention of these three words, Emily’s body shuddered violently!
…
In that moment, Chen Bai felt incredibly fortunate to have a medical school student with him!
Otherwise, with this eerie place, he might not have found it anytime soon!
Yes!
At this very moment, Chen Bai realized that the one place in this medical school he had yet to search was the morgue!
The medical school indeed had a morgue.
In medical schools, they required what were known as “silent teachers”—cadavers donated for anatomical study. The number of these needed as dissection samples was considerable in every medical school.
Thus, almost every university’s medical school had a dedicated morgue specifically for housing these “silent teachers.”
If he didn’t find it here, Chen Bai estimated that he might actually need to recheck the staff dormitories and then continue his search across other areas of Jiangcheng University.
But he didn’t know whether there’d still be enough time by then!
Exhaling a breath of cold air, he entered the underground room where the morgue was located. The temperature here was as chilling as a winter’s day.
But as he finally stood before the morgue’s freezer door, Chen Bai’s eyes flashed with exhilaration and excitement!
Yes!
He sensed it—a unique spatial disturbance.
This disturbance was like ripples on the surface of water, which fish swimming below could feel.
Even through the closed door, Chen Bai could still sense it—behind this door, there was indeed a secret realm!
A unique secret realm that had gone undiscovered even in his past life!
It was here.
Chen Bai chose not to forcefully break down the door. Instead, he used a key he’d recently retrieved from a zombie security guard, and slowly unlocked it.
As if in a movie, cold mist poured out from the opening mechanical door!
The icy white light illuminated rows of massive black iron cabinets.
Yet the bodies that should have been stored within those cabinets were nowhere to be seen!
Seeing this, Emily, who was already on edge, felt an intense chill running from the back of her neck down to her tailbone.
Although she was a down-to-earth American girl and considered herself a pseudo-believer who had read the Bible a couple of times, she couldn’t believe this was something even the God of the Bible would manage!
Chen Bai, however, ignored these eerie details. His gaze was fixed at the far end of his line of sight.
At the end of the room stood an open door.
Yet, beyond that open doorway was not another room, but a slowly spinning black vortex!
That vortex seemed capable of devouring everything around it!
Chen Bai’s eyes filled with uncontainable excitement at that moment.
He glanced at Emily:
“Stay here and don’t move. I’ll be right back!”
A native of the Dragon Nation would have recognized the familiar phrasing instantly.
But Emily, not only had she never seen her father’s retreating figure, she had no interest in any resemblance now. Staring at Chen Bai’s departing back, she was nearly in tears.
Did this man truly have no sense of protecting a lady? Leaving her here alone in this creepy place?!
But it was clear that this underground morgue, accessible only through the underground garage, was quite concealed, with no apparent threats aside from the six zombie security guards Chen Bai had taken down earlier.
Of course, as far as Chen Bai was concerned, this foreign girl’s purpose had been served. Whether she lived or died was no longer his concern.
His full attention was now on the secret realm before him.
At last, Chen Bai slowly approached the rotating vortex doorway.
The next moment, a prompt from the Cosmic Will appeared before his eyes:
[Do you wish to enter the secret realm dungeon: Cooling Incinerator (Level 5-10)]
A glint flashed in Chen Bai’s eyes. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and vanished instantly!
…
Apparently that phrase comes from Zhu Ziqing’s short essay “My Father’s Back”.
