Chapter 389: Ancient War of Gods! The Annihilation Dragon and the Ancient Tree of Life!
TL: YYang
“What the hell?!”
Damn it! He had just eaten a Dragon-Patterned Spirit Fruit he obtained from the Vault of Greed and awakened a dragon ability. But now it seemed like something extraordinary had been triggered?!
Ancient Dragon Language—wasn’t it just a language?!
The Prismatic Dragon Realm? Several Dragon Gods?
A severed inheritance?
The words of Tiamat before him undoubtedly revealed some secrets.
However, despite his shock, Chen Bai’s expression remained utterly calm, as if he had nothing to worry about.
In the Abyss, he was invincible!
No living being could harm him in the Abyss, not even the Will of the Cosmos!
Soon, Tiamat finally calmed down and fixed her gaze on Chen Bai.
“How did you do it?!”
Chen Bai didn’t hide anything. He was genuinely intrigued by this dragon lineage.
The Dragon Species were among the strongest races in the myriad worlds and dimensional cosmos. Even the gods would not dare underestimate or provoke them.
After all, as Tiamat had just mentioned, the dragons had Dragon Gods among them!
However, the presence of these Dragon Gods wasn’t very noticeable. Generally, they were no different from other dragons.
Most of them spent their long lives sleeping.
When Tiamat learned that Chen Bai had learned the Ancient Dragon Language from the Dragon-Patterned Spirit Fruit, her expression became one of utter disbelief.
“What is so special about the Ancient Dragon Language? Why would the dragons sever its inheritance?”
If the inheritance of the Ancient Dragon Language was severed, didn’t that mean many dragons who weren’t Dragon Gods—like the Frostwing Descent—would…
“That is a taboo of our race…”
Chen Bai raised his eyebrow. This was not quite what he had expected.
He had thought that this Abyssal Dragon King, who had entered the Abyss, had simply fallen out with the dragons and become corrupted. But now it seemed the situation was much more complex.
Just then, a figure slowly floated into view. It was none other than Satan.
“So, the old rumors were true?! That King of Termination and Destruction, the Annihilation Dragon, the Final Cataclysm, the Source of Calamity, truly committed that act, which led to the dragons severing one of their most vital inheritances?”
Tiamat’s vertical pupils glinted coldly as she glared at the figure. “Who are you?”
“Ah, a young little thing who doesn’t even know me,” Satan said, smirking. “Not that it matters. You don’t need to know now.”
Satan shrugged as if prepared to leave after showing off. However, Chen Bai wasn’t about to let him off so easily. He looked at Tiamat, whose expression had shifted visibly, and said flatly:
“He is the ancient emperor of Hell, the embodiment of evil, the deceiver, and the Devil Emperor Satan!”
“What?!”
Tiamat’s dragon mouth gaped as she stared at the elegant figure of a man, appearing human in every way, with no special distinguishing features.
Satan was very pleased with her reaction, but he soon laughed and said, “That was my former identity. Now, I am but the most humble and loyal servant of the Great Overlord!”
Tiamat’s head snapped back to look at Chen Bai, her crimson vertical pupils glinting with a new level of scrutiny. It seemed that this Overlord of the Abyss was indeed extraordinary.
Satisfied with Satan’s obedience, Chen Bai finally spoke.
“What caused the severance of the Ancient Dragon Language?”
This time, Satan answered directly.
“The dragons are one of the oldest and most powerful races, unmatched across the myriad worlds. They have always held a significant place in the cosmos.
“During ancient times, a being known as Nidhogg, the Black Dragon King, was born among the dragons.
“He wielded the Authority of Destruction, bringing ruin to all. He was called the King of Termination and Destruction, the Annihilation Dragon, the Final Cataclysm, and the Source of Calamity.
“He was the most powerful dragon. However, this destruction-obsessed being eventually clashed in a destined battle against another existence.
“The ancestor of the elves, the Ancient Tree of Life, also known as the Tree of Antiquity and Knowledge and the Ancient God of Life. It was a battle so terrifying that it shocked the entire cosmos! Even the ancient gods of both the dragons and elves joined the fray.
“In the end, Nidhogg bit through the roots of the Ancient Tree of Life, erasing its consciousness and sense of self.
“But Nidhogg was ultimately torn to pieces and destroyed. The dragons suffered tremendous losses as a result. Legend has it that the Ancient Tree of Life, before its consciousness faded, placed a curse on the dragons, robbing them of a part of their strength. It seems the legend was true!”
Chen Bai inhaled sharply.
So that’s what happened?!
Such hidden truths were buried in this history?!
He suddenly remembered what Mekanshut had once said about Helrose. At that time, Helrose had stolen the authority and power of the Ancient Tree of Life. It seemed it had taken advantage of the tree’s fading consciousness to act.
This wretched being had struck when the Ancient Tree of Life was most vulnerable?
If so, just how powerful was this Ancient God of Life, the progenitor of the elves and the Tree of Antiquity and Knowledge?
And to stand against it head-on, how strong must this Nidhogg, the Annihilation Dragon, have been?
Chen Bai couldn’t help but wonder.
“Indeed. But what surprises me most is that the Overlord managed to obtain the long-lost Ancient Dragon Language from a mere Dragon-Patterned Spirit Fruit!”
Tiamat sighed.
“Well, all of this is history now. But if that’s the case, how did you end up in the Abyss?”
Chen Bai glanced curiously at Tiamat. Clearly, this creature still had deep ties to the dragons.
Tiamat looked at Chen Bai again, her crimson vertical pupils glinting, and then glanced at the faint phantom appearing above the Hell King’s Ring. She finally spoke.
“Of course, I didn’t come here willingly. As my father’s only offspring, his failure led to the curse inflicted upon the dragons by those damned elves. The dragons’ strength was greatly diminished, and to quell the gossip and fury within the clan, the Dragon Gods exiled me to the Abyss.”
At these words, both Chen Bai and Satan, whose phantom was still hovering above the ring, froze.
Wait.
What?
Father?
The Abyssal Dragon Tiamat standing before them was the only offspring of the legendary Black Dragon King, the King of Termination and Destruction, Nidhogg?
