Virus King - Chapter 18
Chapter 18: Stop Playing Games Like This!
TL: YYang
Blood covered its entire body, and in its hands and mouth, there seemed to be remnants of some creature’s flesh.
No one would stick around for a zombie like this!
The few remaining diners, following a series of sharp screams, dashed towards the stairs.
Neither a crazed killer nor a zombie was something people would choose to watch up close!
However, Song Ziqiong seemed completely petrified. Faced with the zombie speeding toward her, she appeared as if frozen by a spell, too terrified to even move!
Chen Bai merely smiled, as if he hadn’t noticed. Casually, he picked up his knife and fork, cutting into the richly red steak on his plate and placing a piece into his mouth.
He watched the visibly tense Song Ziqiong and the zombie rapidly approaching with a speed equal to that of a full-grown man in an all-out sprint.
“Roar!”
The zombie’s growl echoed out.
The stench of blood filled the air, nearly overwhelming.
From a corner, Shuang’er already had her gun aimed at the figure.
At the slightest sign of trouble, she was prepared to take down the zombie in an instant!
Yet, just as the zombie lunged forward, only two steps away from the table, Chen Bai abruptly stood up.
In that moment, no one could see what had happened.
No one could even see how Chen Bai had moved!
Not even Song Ziqiong.
But within less than a second, that terrifying zombie was nailed down, its arms pinned in a bizarre position by a sharp steak knife into the elegant, hardwood table!
Black blood splattered out, staining the half-eaten steak.
However, even with this pain, the zombie seemed unaffected in its rabid hunger for fresh meat.
Oddly enough, this primal rage, triggered by the virus’s hunting instincts, appeared blind to the man standing before it!
From start to finish, the zombie’s blood-red eyes remained fixed on Song Ziqiong. Pinned to the table, barely half a meter away, it still tried with all its might to open its maw wide, intent on devouring her.
The scene was gory, mad.
For Song Ziqiong, it was her first time this close to such a creature.
In this instant, she could feel the horror radiating from it.
But what chilled her more deeply was the calm smile on the face of the young man across from her.
Yes, Chen Bai, rather than finishing off the zombie as he had done before, only pinned its hands to the table with a steak knife, leaving it thrashing in front of her.
At that moment, the rabid zombie continued to lunge toward her, clawing and snapping!
Song Ziqiong’s pupils shrank, and with a forced calmness, she quickly spoke:
“Chen Bai, what…what is that thing? Is it a zombie, like in the movies?!”
Chen Bai, noticing her superb performance, smiled slightly and replied:
“Auntie Song, shouldn’t you know better than I do? Didn’t you have this almost-zombified thing left here?
And you might want to ask the young lady in the corner holding that hunk of iron to lower her hand, wouldn’t you?”
Song Ziqiong’s face turned pale.
In the next moment, Chen Bai grasped the zombie’s head by its brittle, nutrient-deprived hair and began dragging it toward her.
Though the zombie’s hands were still pinned to the table, its head moved closer and closer to Song Ziqiong under Chen Bai’s force.
Even Song Ziqiong couldn’t keep up her act, quickly leaning backward to escape.
But Chen Bai’s greasy hand pressed firmly on her head, preventing her from moving an inch!
Song Ziqiong could only watch, helplessly, as the bloody, crazed zombie with its gore-stained jaws came closer and closer!
“Let go of Madam!” A sharp voice shouted.
Chen Bai glanced at the bodyguard holding a handgun and the tall man in a black suit standing beside him.
The fact that the bodyguard could openly wield a firearm was evidence of Song Ziqiong’s considerable power in Jiangcheng.
But Chen Bai didn’t care in the slightest. He had already sensed everything from this woman and had seen through her little charade with crystal clarity.
He ignored the bodyguard entirely. Let alone the fact that, after the apocalypse, ordinary firearms would turn into nothing more than useless hunks of metal. Even now, while taking a bullet from that handgun might hurt him slightly, with his astonishing agility and heightened reflexes, he could easily avoid getting hit.
So, he didn’t pay them any attention. Instead, he watched Song Ziqiong, who was slowly exhaling a breath of relief, and pushed the zombie’s bloodthirsty jaws even closer to her.
Bang!
The sound was deep and muffled, but Shuang’er stared ahead, stunned.
Her confident shot had only made the man glance at her briefly and leave her with a single remark:
“This is the first time, and it will be the last.”
In that moment, Song Ziqiong’s face finally changed.
Now, she understood completely what kind of monster this young man before her really was!
More importantly, she could see that Chen Bai’s cold indifference was without even a trace of other emotion.
If he wanted to, he truly could kill her and everyone else here!
Song Ziqiong quickly spoke up: “A misunderstanding! This was just a misunderstanding!”
Chen Bai chuckled lightly. He hadn’t actually planned on killing this alluring woman.
His hand moved from the back of Song Ziqiong’s head down to her cheek, his fingers lingering softly on her smooth skin as he said with a smile:
“Auntie Song, if you’d said that earlier, we could’ve avoided all this. In the future, if you have something to say, just come out and say it. Playing these roundabout games is pretty pointless. And most importantly, my time is valuable. Don’t waste it with tricks like this again!”
With that, he yanked the zombie’s head, which felt like a rubber ball in his hand, jerking it sharply toward Song Ziqiong’s stunning face!
As the zombie’s ravenous maw opened right in front of her, Song Ziqiong’s pupils shrank abruptly. She screamed in terror!
And then she saw it.
The zombie’s terrifying head, accompanied by a crisp crack, was twisted right down the middle as if someone were twisting off a sausage link.
The torn skin and flesh split open like scraps spilling from a sausage.
Its head dropped to the floor, while thick, dark-red blood, partly congealed, sprayed from the neck, staining the bright purple of Song Ziqiong’s exquisite qipao.
“Go change clothes, then we’ll talk again,” Chen Bai said, his voice carrying a hint of warning as he spoke close to her ear.
Song Ziqiong watched as he casually waved his hand and disappeared into the elevator, leaving the Westin Hotel.
Ignoring the cold, damp sensation spreading across the seat beneath her, Song Ziqiong glanced down at the corpse at her feet and the severed zombie head resting on her dinner plate. She couldn’t hold back anymore. Silent tears slipped down her cheeks, one after another.
This powerful Queen Song of Jiangcheng had, at last, been frightened to tears.
