Virus King - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: Encountering Zombies Again! Song Ziqiong’s Probe!
TL: YYang
“What?!”
Chen Bai blinked, stunned. Could it be that Song Ge actually repeated everything he said to her mother?
Was this girl a bit dim-witted?
However, Chen Bai fell into deep thought.
He had never underestimated the people in the upper echelons of the city. Their access to information, wealth, and the power that came with it were things beyond the grasp of ordinary people.
The fact that they found him and made this call wasn’t simply because Song Ge, a bit clueless herself, had shared yesterday’s conversation with her mom.
Thinking this, Chen Bai showed a slight smile. He hadn’t expected to come into contact with Song Ziqiong so soon, even before the apocalypse erupted.
But there was no need for him to be nervous.
In fact, he might even gain some benefits!
Besides, in his past life, he wasn’t much worse off compared to her.
Though he hated to admit it, at that time, Chen Bai had the Dark Mother Goddess as a powerful backing.
Even if she couldn’t personally walk the apocalypse, what she could control was unimaginable to ordinary Evolvers!
“Hello, Auntie Song!”
Listening to his calm, composed voice on the other end, Song Ziqiong showed no surprise. She simply chuckled and said:
“You’re one of Song Ge’s classmates, right? She’s often mentioned you. Since she was young, I’ve spoiled her, but due to my work, I don’t know her as well as I should.”
“She doesn’t have many close friends at the academy. Could we find a time to chat in person? I’d like to know more about how she’s doing at school. Would that be alright?”
Chen Bai didn’t doubt Song Ziqiong’s words, especially about spoiling Song Ge since she was young.
But as for the excuse of wanting to know how Song Ge was doing—he wasn’t buying it.
Others might not know, but he sure did!
This woman owned a portion of Jiangcheng University’s shares.
In other words, she was one of the university’s board members.
As long as Song Ge didn’t blow up the school, nothing would happen. There was a line of school administrators ready to clean up any messes she made.
Otherwise, Chen Bai’s candidacy for the student council vice president back in sophomore year would’ve been a sure thing—if not for turning down Song Ge’s romantic advances, which led to him being sidelined by a wave of absolute authority.
All thanks to a small whim of Song Ge, the university campus belle.
Of course, Chen Bai wasn’t some kind of prideful fool who would reject a golden opportunity if he could live a comfortable life, reach the peak, and inherit the Song family’s assets. Who would say no?
But he knew Song Ge’s character far too well.
Knowing, however, was one thing, and Chen Bai didn’t hold any grudges over past events.
The apocalypse was about to descend, and by then, new rules would completely replace the old ones.
Even now, things were already vastly different!
Listening to Song Ziqiong casually spinning tall tales without a hint of hesitation, Chen Bai quickly replied in his smooth, magnetic voice:
“No problem. Just tell me the time and place!”
…
In Jiangcheng, at a window-side booth in the lobby of the Westin Hotel along the Yangtze River.
Chen Bai finally met this famously powerful woman.
Even with his experiences from the previous life, having encountered countless women in the apocalypse, including famous actresses, idols, and even some he kept around, Chen Bai had to admit—the woman before him was easily among the most striking he’d ever seen.
A deep crimson qipao clung tightly to her figure, highlighting every curve.
The mismatched Valentino high-heeled sandals showcased white, delicate toes adorned with purple-red nail polish, drawing all eyes to her feet.
“Hello, Chen Bai!”
As Chen Bai arrived, Song Ziqiong quickly stood up, extending her hand and openly assessing him from head to toe.
Just an ordinary outfit, nothing special.
He was indeed good-looking, but that didn’t mean much to Song Ziqiong.
The only unusual thing was his gaze!
Most boys his age tried to sneak glances at her, but this kid’s eyes brazenly looked her up and down without the slightest attempt at concealment.
His piercing gaze made Song Ziqiong almost uncomfortable, as if he could see right through her.
Still, she wasn’t one to be easily unsettled. Instead, she flashed a charming smile and said, “You really are quite the handsome young man, Chen! If I were twenty years younger, I might be chasing after you just like my daughter!”
This woman was something else.
“If you gave me a chance now, Auntie, I’d still want to pursue you! Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone more beautiful than you.”
“More beautiful? Isn’t Auntie the most beautiful?” Song Ziqiong laughed.
Though Chen Bai’s compliment lacked finesse, she still played along.
In truth, Song Ziqiong read too much into it—Chen Bai hadn’t been intentionally steering the conversation. He was simply stating a fact.
He shook his head.
“No, the most beautiful is a woman named Helrose.”
At this, Song Ziqiong paused, surprised.
She’d thought this boy was just using cheap flattery to catch her attention, but he actually had someone in mind.
“Is she foreign?”
Chen Bai flashed a bright smile, his teeth perfectly aligned. “An alien!”
The Dark Mother Goddess, true name: Helrose.
Song Ziqiong was startled, then burst into laughter. Although her laughter was restrained and elegant, Chen Bai could tell there was genuine amusement there.
After all, women liked hearing compliments, even if Chen Bai wasn’t lying in the slightest.
“Alright then, take a look at the menu. Auntie’s treating today, so let’s talk about Song Ge!”
She played the role convincingly, even asking some thorough questions about Song Ge’s academic progress.
For Chen Bai, however, these questions were a bit of a headache. Before the apocalypse, he hadn’t forgotten everything he learned in school, but it wasn’t like he remembered every detail.
He answered casually, but they both clearly knew that her probing into Song Ge’s studies wasn’t the main point.
As they chatted, Chen Bai occasionally glanced with interest at a spot nearby.
Song Ziqiong seemed to do the same.
Chen Bai stayed calm.
Sure enough, after barely half an hour, a scream pierced the air!
Then a familiar scene unfolded.
A zombie, covered in twisted, dark-purple veins, with bloodshot eyes and jet-black nails, burst into the hall nearby and came charging straight toward them!
Chen Bai’s lips curved upward. Song Ziqiong’s little test really was a bit crude.
