Virus King - Chapter 146
Chapter 146: Plague Temple? Virus Servant! The Destined King?
TL: YYang
[Absorbed a lethal fungus, gained 5 evolution points!]
“What a fantastic mushroom!”
Chen Bai couldn’t help but marvel.
One single mushroom yielding as much as five evolution points was a rarity—such a significant gain from a single viral fungus was virtually unheard of.
Eyes glowing with excitement, Chen Bai continued his search.
Unfortunately, even in this Plague Chemical Plant, such valuable specimens were exceedingly rare.
With a slight tinge of disappointment, he shook his head. Still savoring the thrill of absorbing the plague fungus and watching it transform into his evolutionary nutrients, Chen Bai exhaled deeply and turned to glance at Han Xiao, who was standing nearby, his face twisted in bewilderment:
“Let’s move!”
Where should I go? Who am I? What am I doing here with this… monster?
At this moment, such questions surfaced instinctively in Han Xiao’s confused mind.
The man before him was nothing short of a pure monster.
Chen Bai ignored Han Xiao, who was slipping into a stupor, and strode briskly toward a nearby security room to begin his search.
Even with minimal thought, it was clear that the source of this plague likely wouldn’t be found there. If it was indeed some remnant left behind by the Cult of the Plague, they wouldn’t have stashed it in such an obvious location.
However, this Plague Chemical Plant wasn’t just about completing his mission—it was a treasure trove of invaluable resources for Chen Bai.
The endless manifestations of the plague itself served as unimaginably precious supplies for him!
Still, Chen Bai hadn’t anticipated this: despite the massive size of the chemical plant, there weren’t many monsters within.
He swiftly searched through the security room and the first workshop, scanning them from end to end.
Not a single monster appeared—not even the Plague Giant Mosquito he had encountered earlier.
That said, his efforts weren’t entirely fruitless. He stumbled upon another unique fungus mushroom spawned purely by the plague. This time, however, it only yielded 4 evolution points.
Chen Bai didn’t mind. It was natural that the same bacteria or virus would yield diminishing returns in evolution points when absorbed repeatedly—this was entirely within reason.
Finally, as Chen Bai and Han Xiao ventured deeper into the chemical plant, they encountered more than just the facility itself—they saw other lifeforms once again.
It was another group of giant flying insects.
These were neither mosquitoes nor flies but seemed like a hybrid of the two.
Their massive mouthparts stretched an astonishing half a meter, glinting with a green, chilling light.
Their abdomens were grotesquely swollen, and their bulbous bodies were gathered on the ground, feasting voraciously on something.
There were four or five of them clustered together, frantically devouring the remains of a corpse.
Chen Bai’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The corpse belonged to a zombie.
These insects devoured even the undead?
Chen Bai’s movements had evidently caught the attention of the feeding insects.
Their antennae twitched, and they froze momentarily, clearly startled by the intruder.
Before long, the hunting instincts of the insects kicked in, and they suddenly lunged toward Chen Bai and Han Xiao.
Too bad for them—if they had kept eating, they might have finished their feast and left, but now that was clearly impossible!
Sharp claws slashed through the air. As Chen Bai twisted and spun midair, several insects had already fallen lifelessly to the ground.
The new ability granted by the Darklight Virus allowed him to move freely even in midair.
While true air supremacy might have been out of reach, it was undeniable that his ability to kill in midair had become several times easier!
This moment served as the perfect demonstration.
The insects’ wings were torn apart, and their massive carcasses crashed to the ground, splattering into pools of green pus.
Han Xiao, playing his minor role to perfection, quickly gathered up the items that had dropped to the ground.
To his surprise, a few of the items were quite decent. However, Chen Bai wasn’t interested in the strange, insect-like equipment.
He tossed it all to Han Xiao for disposal and continued his determined march toward the deepest parts of the chemical plant.
For some reason, after passing through several more workshops, Chen Bai still hadn’t encountered any other creatures.
This chemical plant, aside from the floating clouds of green plague mist in the air, had reverted to what seemed like a deathly silence.
Yet, the more still and strange it became, the heavier Chen Bai’s heart grew. This unnatural atmosphere was anything but ordinary.
Finally, as Chen Bai and Han Xiao slowed their pace, a massive factory building at the heart of the chemical plant came into view.
“What is this place?”
Han Xiao thought for a moment before answering: “This seems to be the reservoir for processing and separating industrial water.”
Chen Bai nodded, narrowing his eyes slightly as he glanced at Han Xiao.
“Stay alert. If something really goes wrong, I might not be able to watch out for you.”
Han Xiao nodded nervously, keeping his eyes glued to the factory’s entrance.
The two cautiously approached the door.
Just as they neared it, the previously sealed rolling gate suddenly opened with a loud clatter!
The sound of rushing water echoed from within.
However, what should have been clear water was now a murky green. Inside the enormous factory building, what Chen Bai saw left him utterly stunned.
Countless flying insects perched on the beams and girders of the factory roof, their wings folded.
On the ground, a purple-green fungal carpet resembling a floor of flesh and blood pulsated irregularly, emitting a sickening rhythm.
Within the factory stood humanoid figures, their bodies entirely covered in dark green.
These creatures resembled zombie-like beings infected by a pathogen. Or perhaps “toxic corpses” would be a more fitting description!
Their flesh was distorted and swollen with abscesses and showed signs of rot.
In the far corners of the spacious factory, pairs of dark green eyes stared toward the open rolling gate as well.
They belonged to rats the size of watermelons.
Their fur glimmered with a purple-green luminescence, and their malicious gazes were piercing.
But that wasn’t all.
Within the fungal carpet-covered factory, atop the towering layers of reservoirs, stood two massive mushrooms.
Each stood nearly two meters tall, resembling enormous parasols casting a sinister shadow over the factory.
Danger!
This was Chen Bai’s sole instinct.
This feeling of danger didn’t just emanate from the plague-filled factory but also from the shadowy figure at the farthest end, above the drainage pipes.
This silhouette loomed over the factory like a king reigning in the temple of plague and virus.
Chen Bai took a deep breath. The colossal claws of Biochemical Disaster emerged from his hands.
Just as he was about to enter the factory and make his move, the figure standing atop the reservoirs—elevated as if on the highest throne of the temple—finally revealed itself.
Draped in a dark green robe and wielding a scepter, the figure leapt down with a sudden motion.
In a sharp, eerie voice, it bellowed in a language Chen Bai had never heard before, yet could understand with perfect clarity:
“People of the plague! Servants of the virus! Children of the sect! Offer the highest tribute to our destined king, the most devout prayers from our humble bodies!”
The deafening proclamation froze Chen Bai and Han Xiao in place just as they were about to act.
At the same moment, the green-robed figure knelt down heavily with a loud thud.
All around, the toxic corpses, rats, and flies either descended slowly or formed an orderly line in the middle of the factory, creating a path through the fungal carpet.
At the end of the path, the silhouette continued its chant:
“May our destined king ignite the divine fire soon. We shall forever remain your most humble servants…”
Han Xiao stared at the massive, grotesquely dangerous creatures.
Then his gaze shifted to the figure at the far end, clad in dark green robes, unlike any ordinary monster—or even a transformed Evolver like Zhao Changlin, the Hell Apostle.
Finally, his eyes fell upon the figure attempting to step onto the path created by the plague creatures: another figure in dark green, donning a bird-beak mask.
Once again, the same three questions bubbled up in Han Xiao’s mind.
Where should I go? Who am I? What am I doing here with this… monster?
