Virus King - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: Evil is Best Dealt with by Evil!
TL: YYang
“He’s dead, and neither the hospital nor the police are giving any explanation! Where’s that punk from yesterday!? Get him out here immediately, or don’t expect this hospital to have another peaceful day!
And that little tramp—get out here! You slut, why would my husband go after anyone else but you? Come out!”
Just as Chen Bai stepped into the lobby of Jiangcheng University Affiliated Hospital, an incredibly shrill voice pierced his ears.
It was like nails screeching down a chalkboard, instinctively making him feel uncomfortable.
“Where’s that little whore! Now that my husband’s dead, how are you going to handle it?”
The chaotic scene made Chen Bai’s frown soften slightly.
For a moment, he had been startled.
He’d thought the little nurse had been caught trying to help him retrieve the virus blood sample!
Since it wasn’t that, he felt there was nothing to worry about.
Chen Bai squeezed into the crowd that had gathered. In the middle of it, a woman around forty was sitting on the floor, making a scene and rolling around.
Her face was laced with bitterness, her gaze flashing now and then with a calculating glint.
With one look, Chen Bai, who’d encountered countless people during the apocalypse, could see this woman was here to make a fuss just for money.
Obviously, the zombie from yesterday must have been her husband.
When he’d first arrived, no one had even been watching over that man. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to so easily take the zombie blood virus.
Now, a whole day after his death, they’d only just come to make a scene. How amusing.
Chen Bai’s face took on a mocking expression as he looked at what seemed to be a hospital leader nearby, visibly distressed.
The hospital leader noticed him too, and next to him were several elderly onlookers who had seen what had actually happened yesterday. They exclaimed:
“Isn’t that the young man from yesterday? How did he…?”
How did he get released already!?
That guy was killed!
In the real world, nobody was stupid!
Everyone had witnessed yesterday’s scene. After this young man killed that person, he had been out within a day. What did that imply!?
Some people were already backing away slightly.
In Dragon Nation’s society, money and power often had a way of making things disappear!
And this young man, who appeared to have just killed someone yesterday and was here today as if nothing had happened, might very well be the son of a powerful and influential family!
They definitely didn’t want to provoke someone like that.
However, the woman on the floor didn’t seem to think much about it at first. She only noticed that everyone’s eyes were suddenly on this incredibly handsome young man.
Then, realizing that this youth who’d walked up to her must be the one involved, she responded instantly!
“You little bastard, give me back my husband’s life…!”
She cursed, about to stand up, but she suddenly met the young man’s gaze—a gaze as deep and calm as a still pool of water.
There was no anger or any trace of human emotion.
Yet, precisely because of this lack of emotion, the woman who’d been intent on extorting a large sum of money suddenly froze, unable to speak another word.
Chen Bai’s demeanor remained calm as he looked at the woman without any change in expression. Then, he spoke, his voice so low only she could hear:
“Your husband died yesterday. He died by my hands. And yet, here I am, standing perfectly fine in front of you. Do you want to join him? I can help you with that.”
A threat!
A blatant, unfiltered threat!
The woman looked at Chen Bai in shock.
This was a lawful society!
But she also knew that laws were created by people, and they were enforced by people.
Her eyes turned fearful, trembling as she seemed to understand.
She quickly got to her feet, instinctively backing away.
“No need, no need, I was mistaken. My husband died of illness! Sorry about that!”
Watching her scramble toward the hospital exit, Chen Bai’s expression remained as calm as ever.
Evil is Best Dealt with by Evil.
Compared to this minor incident, comforting the young nurse was, without a doubt, far more important to Chen Bai.
He paid no mind to the surprised onlookers, who were perhaps now piecing things together. A few people had even raised their phones, aiming their cameras in his direction, but he didn’t care and walked away directly.
However, as Chen Bai turned toward the nurse’s station, he didn’t notice a pair of enchanting eyes filled with curiosity fixed on him from a corner of the crowd.
Chen Bai pushed open the door to the nurse’s station, his eyebrows raising slightly.
Besides Chu Xin, there was another man in the room.
Liu Feng stared at the man before him with a glare.
However, after only one glance, he deflated immediately.
Even as a fellow man, he had to admit, damn, this guy was way too handsome! Why wasn’t he off as a male model, catering to wealthy women, or charming rich heiresses? What was he doing here with a junior nurse? Could it actually be… true love?
Chen Bai ignored Liu Feng and looked at Chu Xin, his gaze turning slightly colder.
“Are you feeling any better?!”
The moment he spoke, Chu Xin immediately flung herself at him.
After soothing her emotions a little, Chen Bai finally gave a slight smile.
“It’s all over!” he said, though his gaze shifted back to Liu Feng.
In his past life, Chen Bai, as the White Demon Saint, had grown accustomed to the flattery and fawning of others in the harsh world of the apocalypse. But here, in this non-apocalyptic society, he hadn’t expected anyone to still come eagerly fawning over him after this morning’s chaotic phone call showdown!
Or perhaps…
Chen Bai’s gaze flickered toward Liu Feng.
Liu Feng immediately averted his eyes guiltily.
Chen Bai had long since learned never to underestimate the malice of others, and it seemed he hadn’t been wrong.
A hint of a cold smile appeared in Chen Bai’s eyes.
Ignoring Chu Xin, who was still too flustered to notice the shift in his expression, Chen Bai led her out of the nurse’s station.
The constant flow of people outside was inconvenient.
The inner employee restroom would be much better!
Placing an “Under Maintenance” barrier at the restroom entrance, Chen Bai glanced back at Liu Feng, who was following close behind with a look of resentment. He didn’t care.
With Chu Xin, whose face was flushed red after her initial upset, now held in his arms, he entered the restroom.
Liu Feng hesitated for a moment, then quickly followed them inside. However, the moment he stepped in, a punch to his abdomen sent him flying backward like a prawn. Chen Bai then dragged him by his collar into the restroom like a dead dog.
