Chen Bai woke from his slumber.
With the enhancement of his attributes and the further awakening of the Darklight Virus, Chen Bai felt a surge of strength coursing through his body.
Glancing at Chu Xin, who was still sound asleep, he quietly slipped out of bed.
When Chu Xin woke up, she found the large bed empty. Memories of the previous night surfaced, and just as she was about to sit up, a faint ache reminded her of the wildness they’d shared. A hint of grievance surfaced on her face.
Especially with the things he’d said—how was she supposed to accept all that?!
Still feeling a bit wronged, Chu Xin put on her clothes. But as soon as she stepped out, she saw Chen Bai carrying a plate of stir-fried rice noodles to the dining table.
In an instant, her grievances vanished completely as she took in the delicious aroma. Her dainty nose twitched.
“It smells amazing! You know how to cook? And it even looks delicious?!”
As Chu Xin reached out, Chen Bai slapped her hand away.
“Go wash your hands; they’re covered in bacteria!”
With the Virus Sovereign Talent’s increased control over pathogens, Chen Bai had become far more aware of hygiene.
Pouting, Chu Xin walked to the bathroom, muttering under her breath.
“Yesterday, my hands were covered in your stuff. Now they’re all bacteria? Hmph!”
But she obediently washed up and came back out.
Then, Chu Xin experienced the most shameless moment of her life.
She attacked the food with a whirlwind chopstick flurry!
Even Chen Bai couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow, smirking.
“How long has it been since you’ve eaten?!”
“It’s so good! Chen Bai, you’re amazing! How did you make this breakfast? Now I’m convinced this is no takeout—I’ve tried every place around here, and nothing’s ever tasted this good!”
Chen Bai was already used to such praise; after all, the night before, Chu Xin’s compliments had been far more passionate.
“If you like it, eat more. You won’t have too many chances to enjoy such a relaxed breakfast like this in the future.”
Chu Xin paused, but didn’t think too much about it.
The mysterious man in front of her—she felt as if she could embrace him wholeheartedly.
At that moment, she believed that even if this man handed her a cup of poison, she’d drink it without hesitation.
Little did Chu Xin know that Chen Bai was speaking the truth.
After the apocalypse, while the highest-ranking Evolvers would actually have better food and comfort than before—almost heavenly, with new ingredients that didn’t even exist pre-apocalypse, especially in certain secret realms—they’d never enjoy this kind of peaceful mindset again.
Chen Bai couldn’t help but feel a tinge of nostalgia.
His gaze shifted to the “little nurse” who wasn’t dressed quite so… professionally.
Following his gaze, Chu Xin’s cheeks flushed crimson, yet instead of dodging, she straightened her posture slightly.
What more could Chen Bai say? As he’d mentioned, the easy days before the apocalypse were indeed precious.
Most importantly, to acquire enough virus samples and gather talent evolution points, the nurse before him would be his biggest aid and support!
He wasn’t eager to return to the hospital for more of that overwhelming attention, nor to find out what other troubles might be brewing there.
“Oh, you scoundrel!”
Before long, the two were no longer using two chairs, but one.
“Stop it! Handle it yourself—I’m eating breakfast here!” Chen Bai chided.
Just then, a somewhat ill-timed phone rang.
Chu Xin’s brows knitted as she picked up her phone, ready to hang up, but Chen Bai interrupted sharply.
“Don’t hang up. Answer it!”
Chu Xin cast a flirtatious look at Chen Bai, but still took a deep breath before answering the call.
As she did so, she even picked up a small steamed bun, adopting a rather refined posture.
As expected, every woman was a natural actress, especially depending on who was on the other end of the line.
The voice on the phone demanded, “Xin’er, where are you?! Why aren’t you answering your messages?!”
“I’m having breakfast, and besides, Liu Feng, what exactly is our relationship that you think you can call me that?!”
There was stunned silence on the other end.
“Xin… Xin’er…”
“My name is Chu Xin. If you have something to say, get to the point—I’m busy here! Whew…”
Listening to Chu Xin’s noticeably irregular breathing over the line, Liu Feng—a “devoted admirer” but one without much practical experience—felt a jolt.
Lacking hands-on experience didn’t mean he didn’t have theoretical knowledge. In fact, it made him even more well-read.
At this moment, Liu Feng’s eyes reddened with jealousy. “Chu Xin, what are you doing?!”
This outburst made her only more defiant; her voice grew louder and more intense, carrying an emotion that would have seemed out of place even among certain “teachers” in certain foreign films Liu Feng had once watched.
As Liu Feng’s furious roars and curses poured through the phone, it was clear Chu Xin couldn’t have cared less.
Chen Bai cared even less.
In fact, with his mindset honed by the apocalypse, Chen Bai felt that, truly, nothing could provide a better bit of morning entertainment than this.
