Chapter 389: The Slaughter in the City of Wicked Sages, Two Gods!
TL: Sungmin
From their understanding, the creatures of the Wilderness were nothing to be concerned about.
The only real problem came from the Divine Continent.
At the top of the list of suspects was Satan, whose remaining heart still contained immense power, along with two Demon God-level subordinates.
They had been aware of this for a long time.
It was precisely because powerful magical beasts still existed in the world that people continued to hold on to their faith.
That was the only reason Satan had not been completely annihilated.
Other possible suspects included the North Sea Kraken, Dragon God Moqi, and Dwarven King Berun.
However, the North Sea Kraken could not leave the ocean, Dragon God Moqi was nothing more than a lapdog of the Divine Pantheon, and Berun would never take such a reckless risk.
Given all these deductions, Hermes was certain that Satan was behind it.
Ares suddenly recalled something, slowly stood up, and asked, “Wasn’t there a group of Goblins that established an empire on the Divine Continent and even wiped out the Allied Nations? Shouldn’t we also be keeping an eye on that guy?”
“Hahaha! Did Zeus knock your brain loose?”
Poseidon laughed mockingly and patted him on the shoulder. “I’m heading out first. You all take your time with the investigation. If this was happening in the ocean, I could be of some help, but here, there’s nothing I can do.”
Hades wore a serious expression. “I know about Jehovah Veilynn and her Reality Creation Domain. In that space, it’s nearly impossible to kill her. As for Goblins… you need to calm down.”
With that, he dissolved into a cloud of black mist and vanished.
His words left no room for doubt—he thought Ares had been beaten into an idiot.
The others couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
The Goddess of Beauty spoke up, “You sure know how to lighten the mood, Ares. Farewell.”
“Good luck to you all. Oh, and if you run into Goblins, don’t hold back. Give it your all.”
Hephaestus, the God of Fire, joked before leaving.
One by one, they all departed.
Ares almost wanted to kill himself on the spot.
He had already been humiliated by Zeus, and now he was being laughed at by everyone.
He turned toward Hermes and demanded, “Don’t you find this suspicious? A Goblin, building such a massive empire, and effortlessly crushing the Allied Nations?”
“Calm down. I’ve seen that Goblin. His combat strength isn’t that high. He just had Zeus’s granddaughter assisting him and displayed some extraordinary intelligence.”
“I was surprised too when I saw that he could control insects to mass-produce Overlord-variant Goblins. Hercules and the others losing to them was only natural.”
Hermes recalled the situation, completely unconcerned.
Hearing this, Ares finally dropped the subject. “Then let’s stop wasting time and go cause some trouble in the City of Wicked Sages!”
“No problem, but are you sure you can handle Satan? I’m not much of a fighter.” Hermes shrugged.
Ares pulled out a warhammer engraved with runes, his eyes filled with killing intent. “You think I can’t handle a crippled magical beast?”
With that, the two immediately set off.
…
City of Wicked Sages
The residents had already mastered the use of their armor.
Everyone was working alongside Bill in the Dwarven Bunker, further deepening their understanding of weapon and magical device forging.
On the surface, Satan was currently sulking inside a church.
“It’s over… everything is completely over… Damn Dante, damn Megicula, of all the people to provoke, why did they have to pick that guy?!”
His voice trembled slightly, as if he was on the verge of tears.
Who wouldn’t feel devastated?
He had endured and schemed for so many years, only for everything to come crashing down in an instant. Now, he could do nothing.
“Demon God, I think Goblin King is pretty powerful too. Following him might not be so bad,” a Great Demon King beside him suggested.
There were still believers in the Satanic Cult.
However, Satan slapped his thigh in frustration. “B-But he doesn’t even acknowledge my existence! They all have God-Slaying-Grade Armor, and I can only sit on the sidelines like a rat in the sewers! Do you have any idea how that feels?!”
“Well… that’s because they have better connections. Maybe… Demon God, you should try to please the Goblin King?” the Great Demon King hesitated as he spoke.
Hearing this, Satan kicked him to the ground. “I am the Great Demon God! Once the strongest God of Magical Beasts! And you want me to please a Goblin?! How could I ever show my face again if word got out?! Besides, my tastes are completely normal!”
The Great Demon King awkwardly got back up. “I didn’t mean that kind of pleasing… You could serve him instead—pour him tea, run errands, be a lackey or something.”
This time, Satan actually paused to think.
It was the most practical solution at the moment.
Trying was better than doing nothing.
“From now on, the Satanic Cult will be renamed Goblin Cult! Get me some banners, build some statues! The moment we see the Goblin King, we will rush over and kneel in greeting! Everything must be arranged perfectly!”
All of a sudden, Satan seemed to have an epiphany and began giving orders.
The first thing he did was replace the church’s cross with a Goblin statue.
He also had banners put up all over the City of Wicked Sages, with slogans such as ‘Long Live His Majesty the Goblin King!’
Lin Tian frequently visited the City of Wicked Sages, but when he saw these changes, he remained completely indifferent.
“Master! Master! Welcome back, Master!”
As Lin Tian happened to pass by the church, Satan and the magical beasts under his command threw themselves to the ground, kneeling at the roadside and bowing to welcome him.
Seeing this, Lin Tian, who had just returned from gathering materials, frowned. “You lot have been acting very strange lately. You’d best behave yourselves, or I’ll kill every last one of you!”
If it had been a group of beautiful women doing this, he might have felt pleased.
But who could possibly accept a crowd of grotesque, sharp-fanged magical beasts grinning at him with twisted, perverse smiles?
As Lin Tian walked away, Satan’s heart shattered into pieces. “I told you, all of this was pointless. I, a Great Demon God, am completely finished.”
This time, the Great Demon King had nothing more to say.
They all hung their heads in despair.
“By the way, Lord Satan, didn’t you once pursue the Goddess of Fortune? Why not introduce her to Goblin King? Maybe that would help improve his impression of us.”
The Great Demon King’s eyes suddenly lit up with excitement.
However, Satan kicked him to the ground again. “Are you an idiot, or am I?! I spent three hundred years pursuing the Goddess of Fortune, and she never even said a single word to me! And now you’re suggesting I introduce her to Goblin King? Why not just outright offer her to him in bed?!”
At his peak, Satan had been incredibly powerful.
There was a time when he had roamed the realms, pursuing those ancient and mighty wandering gods.
Besides the Goddess of Fortune, he had also sought after the Queen of the Cemetery of Pain, the Goddess of the Sun, and the Goddess of Light, among others.
Yet all he had received was rejection and humiliation.
The Great Demon King, rubbing his bruised chest in frustration, muttered, “That’s not what I meant. I was saying that we should tell Goblin King about the benefits of winning over the Goddess of Fortune, as well as how to find her.”
The Goddess of Fortune, as her name suggested, wielded the power of absolute luck.
But not only that—she was also rumored to be one of the Virgin Goddesses of the Old Divine Pantheon, known for her unparalleled beauty.
Countless beings had pursued her, driven to madness, willing to offer everything just to gain her favor.
The number of her suitors could probably stretch from this world to another one known as France.
Besides her beauty, what truly made her irresistible was her power.
Following the Goddess of Fortune meant that everything in life would go your way. Even if you wanted to die, fate wouldn’t allow it. Wealth, power, and legendary encounters would all fall into your lap as if raining from the heavens.
Legends told of a man who once got within twenty meters of the Goddess of Fortune.
By pure accident, he stumbled upon an ancient treasure map, obtained limitless wealth, and established a glorious empire.
Someone who came within ten meters of her…
He accidentally wandered into the ruins of an ancient power, learned devastatingly powerful magic, and became a renowned figure in history.
Or even more absurd—just by being near her, a random princess of some kingdom happened to pass by, and the two fell in love at first sight, leading to a life of endless luxury and romance.
Stories like these, surreal and dreamlike, had been recorded countless times.
Satan rested his chin on his hand and nodded vaguely. “Hmm… It’s true that Goblin King might be interested. Hardly anyone has heard news of the Goddess of Fortune in recent times.”
“However, I pursued her relentlessly for three hundred years, and I only managed to see her true form once. She lives in an Illusory Realm, making it impossible to track her location. No one knows who she will become or what she will look like from one day to the next.”
The Illusory Realm was exactly as the name implied—a world of illusions.
It was created using an ancient magic formation, capable of simulating anything.
The Goddess of Fortune resided in an Illusory Metropolis, a vast city conjured by illusions, identical in every way to a real metropolis.
Every day, the city refreshed itself, constantly shifting and changing.
No one knew who in the city was actually the Goddess of Fortune.
All that could be seen were countless obsessed suitors, wandering through the Illusory Metropolis, pouring their hearts out to thin air, endlessly declaring their love.
They all hoped that one day, she would respond.
The Great Demon King spoke up. “Why do we care about all that? Just pass the information to Goblin King. What he does with it is his own business.”
Satan nodded. “Alright. You’re quite sharp. If we receive Goblin King’s favor, I won’t forget your help.”
“Hehe… Thank you, Lord Satan.”
The Great Demon King scratched his head and grinned.
Suddenly!
Boom!!!
Two deafening explosions echoed across the City of Wicked Sages!
A violent windstorm tore through the city!
Satan frowned. “A divine presence?! Hurry, follow me and check it out!”
Just outside the City of Wicked Sages…
Ares, the God of War, had arrived, clad in bronze armor, his eyes brimming with bloodlust, a sinister grin twisting at his lips.
Bang!
With a single swing of his warhammer, he obliterated a magical beast, its body bursting into a bloody explosion!
“Run! It’s a god!”
“No way! Why would a god suddenly attack us?!”
“The God of War is here! Everyone, run for your lives!”
The screams of countless magical beasts and humans filled the air, drowning in panic and terror.
They weren’t fools.
They knew all too well just how insignificant they were before a god.
There wasn’t even a thought of resistance.
Ares cackled darkly. “Look at these filthy ants! Did I say you could run?!”
With just a thought, his warhammer began a rampage, smashing through the city without discrimination, crushing both magical beasts and humans alike!
Blood instantly flooded the streets of the City of Wicked Sages!
The stench of death filled the air.
Severed limbs and scattered remains littered the ground.
Hermes chuckled. “Hey, hey, Ares, what’s gotten into you? Since when do you feel like wasting time killing ants?”
“Hmph. It’s that damn old man. I had to endure so much humiliation at his hands. I need to vent my anger somewhere.”
Ares grinned viciously and shot forward like a meteor.
With a single swift motion, he snatched a young human girl into his grasp.
Beside him, the girl’s mother fell to her knees, pleading, “O mighty God, please, I beg you, spare us! She’s just a child!”
The little girl screamed so hard that her throat was about to tear.
“Evil must be strangled in the cradle! If she grows up, she’ll do wicked things!”
Crack!
With a mere squeeze of Ares’ hand, the little girl’s head burst like a crushed walnut.
The scene was unspeakably horrific.
The girl’s mother nearly fainted on the spot, but through her hysteria, she shrieked with overwhelming hatred, “You beast! You demon! What kind of god are you?! Slaughtering the innocent! I will expose your vile crimes to the world!!!”
“Hahaha!”
“Lady, you seem confused about your position here.”
“And just how do you plan to expose us? Are you going to tell the world that the God of War, Ares, and Hermes came to the City of Wicked Sages and slaughtered everyone?”
Hermes crossed his arms, ridiculing her with a sneer.
Ares chuckled and added, “Go ahead, I won’t kill you. Tell the world how the great Ares and Hermes came here to uphold justice and eradicate evil! Hahaha!”
That was the truth.
In the eyes of the world, Ares and Hermes were simply enforcing justice.
Even if these humans were merely members of the Old God Nirvana Organization and had never committed any crimes themselves, their alignment alone sealed their fate.
No one would ever pity them.
“I told you all to stop!”
Boom!!
A sonic blast erupted in all directions!
In an instant, every fleeing magical beast and human was shredded into blood mist, and even the surrounding buildings were obliterated!
War Cry—one of Ares’ abilities.
Its primary function was to break control effects.
Since Ares loved to charge straight into hordes of enemies, he developed this skill to avoid being overwhelmed.
And he could even use it multiple times in succession.
Surveying the gruesome remains around him, Ares scratched his head and sighed, “Oops… Might’ve overdone it a little.”
Before him lay pools of blood, severed limbs, and chunks of pulverized flesh, covering the ground in a grotesque mosaic.
The sheer horror of the scene would make even the most hardened warriors vomit on the spot.
Hermes reached into his pocket and pulled out a bloodied eyeball that had flown in.
With a look of utter disgust, he flicked it to the ground.
“This was just the opening act,” Hermes muttered coldly, gazing ahead.
A moment later, Satan’s silhouette shot toward them at breakneck speed, accompanied by several Great Demon Kings and a few God-level members of the Old God Nirvana Organization.
However, their strength had not fully recovered, leaving them with only around twenty to thirty thousand combat power.
Upon witnessing two true Prime Gods in front of them and the carnage they had just caused…
Even Satan felt a chill of fear, while the other magical beasts and humans instinctively stepped back.
After all, among the corpses littering the ground, there were plenty of Great Demon King-level beings and even former powerhouses of the Old Divine Pantheon.
As a seasoned warlord who had seen much in his time, Satan forced himself to remain composed and spoke with a grave tone, “What are you doing here? The gods are bound by the covenant—you are forbidden from interfering with the mortal world! You are violating the pact!”
“Pfft—hahaha! Look at this! The once-mighty Great Demon God is actually trying to lecture us about contracts! He’s scared!”
Hermes burst into laughter on the spot.
Ares smirked maliciously. “You want us to leave? Sure, just kneel and beg for mercy. Oh, and while you’re at it—bring me Megicula and make her bear my child. Then we’ll leave!”
Megicula had slain countless Prime Gods in the past, and even Ares had suffered great losses at her hands.
This was nothing more than an excuse to humiliate her.
Of course, they had no intention of leaving in the first place.
