From Goblin to Goblin God - Chapter 278
Chapter 278: Even Monks Can Grow Stronger!
TL: Sungmin
“Practice diligently for a few more days,” Lin Tian instructed. “I’ll check on your combat strength when I return. Go on now.”
With a collective nod, the crowd dispersed.
Bill called out, “Gobu Kuang, Gobu Tian, Gobu Shan, come with me to the Dwarf Kingdom. The weapons and equipment crafted for you are almost ready, and you can lend a hand to speed things up.”
Ever since Lin Tian had forbidden him from indulging in play with his consorts, Bill had taken to crafting magical gear in his spare time. He’d also wanted to reward Gobu Kuang and his brothers for their tireless work in promoting his consort selection.
Hearing this, the three goblins became excited and immediately followed him to the Dwarf Kingdom.
Watching this, Lin Tian felt a deep sense of satisfaction. “If things continue developing like this for another year, we might even have a fair shot at taking down those guys in the Uninhabited Zone. That would give us some confidence in facing the angels.”
“I, too, need to push my strength further.”
With that, he opened his system panel.
A month had passed, and the cooldown for the Rebirth from Cocoon skill was reset. This meant he could enhance his power again through self-sacrifice. However, at his current level, the gains would be limited—at most, a few hundred points in combat power.
Finding a secluded, hidden spot, he prepared for “self-sacrifice.”
“Hmm… maybe I’ll skip using the Spear of Zeus this time,” he muttered to himself. “Pulling it out while enduring the pain is a hassle, and if I fail, well… it could be game over. Better to just use my hand.”
Holding the Blood Spear, he muttered to himself. Stabbing himself with it always proved agonizingly painful and risky.
With that decision, he extended his sharp, powerful claws and removed the Life Armor Necklace. Otherwise, the armor would automatically protect his body.
“Thud!” His claw pierced through his chest, precisely shattering his heart.
Lin Tian was already used to this; aside from the familiar pain and slight unease, it wasn’t too bad.
Slowly, he closed his eyes and lost consciousness.
When he woke up again, he felt as if he’d just soaked in a long, hot bath—a feeling of utter refreshment.
…

“Finally broke 20,000 combat power. As a goblin, it’s been a grueling journey,” Lin Tian sighed, looking at his stats panel.
Some creatures, like high demons or powerful demigods, were born surpassing 20,000, with incredible growth potential. But his 20,000 combat power came not only from accumulating numerous skills but also from powerful equipment and breaking through the level 100 barrier. Even then, he had to rely on “self-sacrifice” to grow stronger.
Most people wouldn’t be able to bear this kind of self-harm. It also required the powerful constitution he’d developed over endless struggles. Thinking about it, he couldn’t help but feel a bit bitter (dog-head emoji).
…
The next day, Lin Tian was ready to test the combat strength of the others. He could hardly wait to crush those wretched demons. Any who met the power requirements would be allowed to participate in the battle.
First, he headed to the training grounds where the One-Eyed Owl and her team were stationed.
These grounds were all set up in open areas outside the main city. Otherwise, training with full power wouldn’t just be training—it would be city demolition.
Outside Heart Lake Forest,
“Swish! Swish! Swish!” A succession of high-powered water columns shot up from the lake surface, creating a stunning display!
“Clap! Clap! Clap!”
A series of applause and cheers followed.
“Big Sis is amazing!”
“The power increase is insane! It’s terrifying!”
“Unstoppable! Big Sis, I’m so jealous!”
“Just watching from the sidelines is a thrill in itself. Amazing!”
Osius, Grugia, and the others stood in a row, looking like NPC onlookers as they voiced their awe.
On the lake’s edge, the One-Eyed Owl lowered her fist with a proud smile. “Stop the flattery and focus on improving your own strength. If you’re too weak, you won’t qualify for the battlefield.”
They’d still technically be allowed to join, but she worried they’d be risking death.
Osius sighed. “I’m just a monk—my limit is set. Big Sis, at least you have a trace of divine blood. There’s no comparison.”
The same went for the other members of the Dragon Slayer Guild. After all, they were just regular humans with ordinary professions, which limited their combat potential. Most were just over 10,000 in combat power, with Osius reaching 12,000.
Thinking back on his fight with the angels, Osius couldn’t help but feel a chill of dread.
They were simply beyond comparison.
Grugia’s expression turned distant as he muttered, “My…my Titan bloodline is diluted. When I transform, all I gain is size, with hardly any real combat power…and I can’t even improve it anymore.”
The group fell into a somber silence, their spirits dampened. At this point, their view of the One-Eyed Owl was tinged mostly with envy.
“Come on, cheer up!” One-Eyed Owl encouraged them. “Why should monks be weak? Your path is just misguided. Have you ever heard of Hercules? He was a monk, an immensely powerful one at that.”
Hercules, also known as Heracles.
Yet Osius remained dejected, slumping in defeat. “But he was the king of the Divine Strength Empire, a son of Zeus. How can I compare? It wasn’t the monk profession that made him powerful; it was his bloodline.”
“Shut it! What about his spirit?” the One-Eyed Owl snapped. “That’s something worth emulating. When he was still weak, he challenged countless Demon Kings to hone his body and fighting skills. Sure, his bloodline helped…a bit.”
Even she had to admit that talent made a difference that no amount of training could entirely bridge. But hard work could at least close some of the gap.
“If you don’t even want to put in the effort, then you’ll never improve. Under Lin Tian’s protection, you have access to nearly limitless resources, yet you spend all your time at the tavern and the succubus house. Who’s going to be weak if not you?”
“I… Big Sis! I swear, I’ll work hard!” Osius gritted his teeth and declared, his fighting spirit ignited.
It was true—he’d wasted so many opportunities in the comfort of easy access to anything he needed. Shameful, really.
Of course, “easy access” referred to the resources available within their territory, including rare books for monks, magical items to boost power, fruits, herbs, and more.
Hearing this, the other members of the Dragon Slayer Guild found their own motivation and resolved to improve themselves rather than remain mere spectators, clapping in admiration.
The One-Eyed Owl then turned her gaze to the despondent Grugia. “And you? I remember you once had a dream, didn’t you?”
