From Goblin to Goblin God - Chapter 273
Chapter 273: Damn It, You Demons!
TL: Sungmin
Scarlett slowly approached the young demon girl, Winnie, slumped over the table.
Shaking her vigorously, she pleaded, “Wake up, little Winnie! Come on, you’re pretty strong too, right? Help me out here, will you? Doesn’t your family have some deep ties with the Succubi? Don’t just stand by and let me die!”
At that moment, Winnie, who had been sleeping soundly, gradually woke up. Her sleepy face looked thoroughly displeased.
“What do you want? Please, don’t touch me, Scarlett! I’m afraid I’ll catch something gross. Sure, my family has ties with the Succubi, but that’s got nothing to do with me. It’s just those ‘adults’ who always come around to play with you guys.”
With obvious reluctance, Winnie stood up and shifted away, full of disdain for Scarlett.
Men might find Scarlett incredibly attractive, but women kept as much distance as they could—no one knew if she’d been “meeting clients” on the roadside just a minute ago.
Ignoring this, Scarlett continued pleading, “Fine, I won’t touch you. Just help me out! It’s only about killing a single goblin…”
“You know I hate fighting. Go find someone else. Anyway, why am I even here?” Winnie muttered, barely interested. “Forget it. I’m going back to sleep.”
Preparing to drift back into her dreams, Winnie settled in again.
If one could control their dreams freely and experience sensations that felt as real as waking life, anyone would develop a love for sleep.
For a moment, Scarlett fell into despair, regretting her decision to mess with Lin Tian. Not only had he used her for ten days without so much as a second thought, but now she was on the brink of a gruesome death!
“One more minute left~ my dear~” Ladrick taunted with a wicked grin.
Just as Scarlett despaired, the sound of flapping wings echoed from outside the door.
Several Demon King-level creatures entered, unrolling a long red carpet.
“Nanavis is here!” they announced.
“She’s coming?”
Inside, a sense of tension flickered among the Great Sins Lords, each one looking visibly uneasy.
Even Winnie, who had seemed apathetic, sat up with a serious expression.
From the end of the red carpet, a fierce gust of wind rushed through the hall, raising goosebumps on everyone’s skin.
A figure in an elegant black gown walked slowly toward them. Nanavis’s eyes radiated a palpable malice toward the world, as if everyone she encountered annoyed her. Yet no one dared say a word.
“You lowlifes, what are you all doing gathered here? Made me search all over the place!” she spat as soon as she entered.
The atmosphere grew stiflingly tense in an instant.
Ladrick and the others kept their heads low, too afraid to utter a word.
Winnie sat up straight, resting her tiny hands on her knees, her gaze darting nervously, her toes practically digging into the floor like a child under strict reprimand.
Nanavis entered the hall, and the demons quickly carried over a large black throne for her to sit on.
Without preamble, she declared, “His Majesty Demon God has business to handle in Hell. He won’t be coming back for a long while.”
“He’s gone back?” Scarlett muttered, her voice barely containing her dread. This news meant her situation had only worsened.
Without the Demon God’s protection, she was doomed if the goblins attacked.
But suddenly, a chilling sense of impending death washed over her, piercing her very soul. Her pores opened, and her heart pounded erratically.
Nanavis shot her a vicious look and barked, “Shut up! Did I give you permission to speak, you filthy creature?”
“S-sorry, Lady Nanavis!” Scarlett dropped to her knees, trembling in fear. The terror was overwhelming.
The others looked on, silently seething, but no one dared protest.
After all, Nanavis was a high demon, infamous for her twisted personality and unpredictable temper.
Her mixed heritage as a half-human, half-demon had led to her being rejected by humans and ridiculed among the high demons. Now, she lived in the Uninhabited Zone, full of seething hatred for everyone as if they’d all wronged her.
Arrogant and cruel, she took any opportunity to bully these middle demons with threats and intimidation.
Disregarding Scarlett, Nanavis continued, “With the Demon God away, I will be the one in charge of the Uninhabited Zone. From now on, all of you obey me, or… face death!”
“Yes, ma’am…” the five Great Sins Lords nodded submissively, their voices quivering.
“But that’s not the only reason I gathered you,” Nanavis said, turning gracefully. “My scouts have spotted several thousand human soldiers gathering near the border. All of you, come with me. We’ll wipe them out.”
She spun around, prepared to lead them to the border.
At that moment, a Demon King bent over in respect and murmured, “A report, my lady… it appears we’re missing Lord Gallows…”
“Gallows? He was killed by a goblin.”
Scarlett quickly chimed in, unable to resist the opportunity to plead for help—there wouldn’t be another chance, unless she was ready to be Ladrick’s star wrath* for a thousand years.
This time, Nanavis didn’t scold her. Instead, she replied calmly, “Is that so? I’ll make arrangements to replace him with another middle demon. Let’s move.”
“Huh?”
Scarlett stood there, dumbfounded. Then, snapping out of it, she added hastily, “Lady Nana, aren’t you going to kill that goblin and avenge him? Besides, he even said he’d come and kill all of us Great Sins Lords! Such arrogance, it’s just—”
“Ahhh—!”
In an instant, Scarlett found herself lifted off the ground, her throat gripped by an invisible hand. Bones cracked and strained, as if her neck were about to snap at any second.
Nanavis looked furious. “Goblin, goblin… if you dare to mention that word one more time, I’ll crush your neck! Filthy wench!”
With a flick of her unseen grip, Scarlett was hurled to the side, smashing through the hall’s ornate glass.
Nanavis saw through her scheme; she knew Scarlett was trying to provoke her, hoping to manipulate her into taking action. That only made her angrier. She cared nothing for Gallows’s death and wouldn’t demean herself to hunt down a mere goblin, a low-level creature.
Besides, Scarlett had already tried to bring this up with her before—she was done hearing about it.
After Nanavis left, Hir walked over to help Scarlett up. “Can’t you calm down a little? Compared to a goblin, Lady Nana is a much scarier enemy. How dare you try to provoke her…”
“Come on, we should get going. If we make Lady Nana wait, she’ll only get angrier,” muttered Gluttony, setting aside his food and dabbing at the blood at the corner of his mouth with a napkin as he hurried after her.
Scarlett, filled with a sense of injustice, felt like crying. “How… how did things turn out like this? Can someone please come and save me? Sob, sob…”
Tears streaked her face, but a fierce killing intent suddenly sparked in her eyes.
“Ladrick, I agree! As long as you kill that damn goblin and end all this, I’ll serve you for a thousand years!”
Scarlett gritted out the words, filled with hatred. She had no way back now!
But Ladrick only gave a sinister smile. “Apologies, darling~ The time’s up. I’ll need one thousand five hundred years now. You’ve got three minutes to decide. How about it?”
“You! You’re despicable!”
Scarlett was so furious that her earlier hurt and indignation faded away.
Not a single one of these demons had a shred of decency—if ever there were a reason demons were despised, they embodied it to perfection!
