Chapter 271: Now That the Crowd is Gone, Go Ahead and Kneel~
TL: Sungmin
Although the Flame Dragon Mother had told him his father was Lin Tian, the Goblin King, this was the first time Spark and Lin Tian met up close.
Their previous encounter had been on the battlefield, with no time for either to feel shy.
“What are you staring at? I’m not about to give you a hug.”
Suddenly, Lin Tian’s voice, tinged with irritation, rang out. He was speaking to Spark.
Hearing this, Spark’s eyes dimmed with disappointment, and he prepared to turn and fly away.
Yet in the next moment, a hand gently patted his head.
Lin Tian chuckled, “Kids really do grow fast. Even though you were born after Little Black, you’re already this big. But don’t try hugging me with all that fire on you, or you’ll roast me alive.”
“F-Father!” Spark’s eyes glistened with tears, his heart full of joy.
At this, the One-Eyed Owl spoke up. “You’re truly something, you know that? Not only did you bring strong goblins like Gobu Kuang into the world, but also terrifying dragons like Little Black. And then there’s Spark, who’s already on par with elemental spirits. If he matures to Salamander’s level, he could become the ultimate weapon!”
Ancient dragons, after all, were recognized worldwide as weapons of mass destruction, capable of wiping out entire cities.
Fire dragons were especially renowned among them.
That was why she said it.
Lin Tian, however, shook his head. “I don’t have high expectations for my children. If I really did, I’d be crazily churning out offspring by now.”
Up in the sky, more and more ancient dragons gathered, circling and soaring.
The sight was overwhelming.
The Flame Dragon Mother, the Purple-Gold Dragon Mother, and Scar all assumed humanoid forms and descended to the plaza.
Lin Tian quickly asked, “Weren’t you all returning to the Legendary Dragon Nest?”
The Legendary Dragon Nest was located on a continent beyond the Uninhabited Zone, the true ancient stronghold of dragonkind.
Flame Dragon Mother’s line lacked dark-element, light-element, and many compound-element dragons, which still resided there in large numbers.
At his question, the Flame Dragon Mother explained, “We crossed the Uninhabited Zone, but felt it might be dangerous for Little Black and Spark to return right now, so we decided to stay a bit longer—at least until they grow stronger.”
“Yes, with so many dragons there, if anyone harbored ill will towards Little Black and Spark because of their bloodlines, it would be quite dangerous,” added the Purple-Gold Dragon Mother.
Lin Tian nodded, “Makes sense. However, another reason you left may be due to the curse…”
At that moment, Sara returned, hastily kneeling at Lin Tian’s feet. “Your Majesty, I’ve established a new king in my absence. So now, I’m free to serve you once more! Please, allow me to stay by your side again!”
“Is that so? Naturally, that’s not a problem,” Lin Tian replied calmly.
He then informed Sara and the ancient dragons about the Curse of Envy.
A glint of murderous intent flickered in Scar’s eyes. “So, that’s the issue? Then, Your Majesty, count us in when the time comes—we’ll burn that Uninhabited Zone to the ground!”
“Exactly! Every time we fly over it, it makes my scales crawl, and those damned flying monsters won’t leave us alone.”
“That cursed place… wiping it out would be a blessing. It’s controlled by demons, wicked creatures not of this world.”
The dragons all voiced their thoughts, everyone deep in discussion.
The One-Eyed Owl looked around, sighing, “It seems everyone’s returned. Wait—there’s still Lady Alice…”
At the palace entrance in the distance, a graceful figure appeared, slowly stepping forward. Golden hair flowed gently in the breeze, framing her delicate face in a scene of serene beauty.
Her fair skin gleamed like polished jade, captivating all who saw her.
It was Alice.
Having abandoned her armor and weapon, she now stood barefoot, dressed simply, resembling a girl from a Da Vinci painting.
The One-Eyed Owl and the others visibly relaxed. “She’s back too!”
“Wow! Lady Alice looks stunning like this!”
“Armor or no armor, she has two supreme looks! Ah, the air is filled with her fragrance—it’s invigorating!”
“You need to cut it out with the leering… or wait, let’s hope Lady Alice doesn’t cut you down first!”
Lin Tian felt a slight caution rise within him.
After all, in the simulated scenarios, he had met his end at Alice’s hands.
Alice walked up to Lin Tian, parting her lips softly, “Your Majesty, Lin Tian, I…”
“No need to say more. Welcome back, Alice.”
In Lin Tian’s eyes shone a rare look of kindness and warmth.
The One-Eyed Owl laughed heartily. “Why the gloomy face? We’re only like this because of the curse. If anyone’s to blame, it’s those damned Demon Kings in the Uninhabited Zone!”
Just then—
A cold wind, sharp as a blade, shot forth from Alice’s side like a bullet!
The piercing sound chilled everyone, making their hairs stand on end.
Her beautiful eyes narrowed abruptly, her pupils shrinking.
“Was it… those demons?”
Alice’s voice carried a chilling coldness, sharp and dark.
Osius flinched, not daring to take a full breath, and replied cautiously, “Uh… Brother Tian said so, so it must be true, right? All of us are back here now, after all.”
“Yes, there’s no need for you to blame yourself or dwell on it.”
Lin Tian could see Alice was feeling embarrassed. She was the kind of person who cared about keeping her pride.
Everyone chimed in, trying to reassure her.
But waves of killing intent surged around Alice, whipping up fierce gales that swept through the palace grounds!
With a cold, steely tone, she declared, “Those damned Demon Kings… I’ll see to it that each and every one of them is judged and eradicated!!!”
“Yes, yes, alright, let’s put that aside for now,” the One-Eyed Owl interjected in a conciliatory tone. “Today’s a reunion, let’s just relax and enjoy it.”
Gobu Yue cheerfully offered, “Then I’ll go gather some ingredients—we can have a barbecue right here!”
“I’ll help!” Lia added, while Gobu Slayer and the others joined in, eager to help out.
They were used to working together with Gobu Yue, moving in sync as they organized things.
Osius and Grugia glanced around and said, “Alright, let’s go find Master Bill. Can’t have a bonfire barbecue without that guy.”
Everyone put down what they were carrying; they’d just returned and were still loaded with bundles and bags.
Lin Tian called out, “Alice, come with me. Let’s go get your armor and weapon.”
Since the Ominous Blade housed a Darkspawn spirit, it was a living entity and couldn’t be stored in a spatial ring. That was why Alice had left her things in the main hall.
Together, they headed slowly toward the hall.
“I’ll get it for you,” Lin Tian said as he walked toward the hidden compartment behind the throne.
But just then—
Bang!
Alice suddenly closed the grand doors.
An eerie silence fell over the room.
Lin Tian’s heart clenched. He spun around, on guard. “Alice… you!”
Thud!
In the middle of the grand hall, Alice dropped to her knees, her eyes brimming with tears. In that moment, she looked as delicate and vulnerable as a young girl.
She spoke in a soft voice, “I’m sorry, Your Majesty Lin Tian. I… I shouldn’t have said those things to you before. There were too many people outside just now, but now… now I want to apologize to you. I hope you can forgive me.”
