From Goblin to Goblin God - Chapter 262
Chapter 262: High Demon, Celeste
TL: Sungmin
“What? My Lord, you… you really don’t know this?”
In a nearby private room, Celeste anxiously consulted the current top succubus, Lily.
Lily had gone with a sweet and endearing style today, but when she heard Celeste asking her about such things, she could hardly believe it.
Celeste sighed, feeling cornered. “I… I’m not like you. I’m a high demon, not a succubus. I’ve been fighting monsters in hell since I was young. How would I know about any of this? You mustn’t tell anyone else.”
After all, making connections was considered unseemly anywhere—especially for a proud high demon.
“You… you’re a high demon?”
At that, Lily immediately dropped to her knees, trembling all over.
In hell, high demons held the ultimate authority over slaughter and destruction. Even the most powerful succubi remained as lesser demons, strictly bound by a hierarchy. To defy a high demon meant disrespecting the entire upper echelon—a crime punishable by certain death.
Lily was so petrified that she dared not look Celeste in the eye again.
Seeing this, Celeste told her to stand up. “No need for that. I’m not like those arrogant fools who flaunt their power all day. My father sent me to guard the Unclean Lands since I was young, so now I barely know anything else. I can’t even find a job.”
“Huh…?”
Lily looked baffled, slowly piecing it together. “Wait, you… you came from the Unclean Lands? Then that means…!!”
The Unclean Lands were traditionally guarded by the family of the Great Demon Gods, who kept the place clear of corrupted, uncontrollable monsters to prevent chaos in hell.
This meant Celeste bore the blood of a Great Demon God—a deity’s lineage!
“I-I don’t even know what to say, Ce-Celeste, my Lord…”
Lily trembled harder, reverting to her true form out of sheer shock. Her mind swirled, overwhelmed by the revelation.
It was like a devout follower walking along only to encounter their deity right before them.
Celeste’s face darkened in exasperation. “I’m no deity. At best, I’m a demigod. Hell’s godhoods are already filled to capacity. I don’t even have the qualifications to illuminate a divine status.”
In hell, Lucifer and the six Great Demon Gods had taken all the godly roles. As long as they remained, no new demon deities could rise. The same rule applied in other pantheons; there was no room unless a god perished.
This was why, when Veronica learned Lin Tian could illuminate a divine status, she was utterly astounded. Becoming a god was near-impossible—and earning the chance to unlock a godly position was even more unfathomable.
Still, Lily was deeply shaken. “Then… then, Lord Celeste, let me teach you…”
“Alright, relax. I’ll be counting on you,” Celeste said with earnest sincerity.
She had already spent two thousand years fighting monsters in hell, then another thousand years simply idle at home. Now, she finally had a chance to take on a formal job that connected her to the outside world, and she was determined to make the most of it.
The monster empires, the demi-human empires, and even the human empires—all refused to let demons join their ranks, fearing them as bringers of death and disaster.
Because of this, the Uninhabited Zones had come under the control of the seven great Demon Kings, leaving nowhere else to go.
Though demons wielded immense power, each nation remained under the protection of their respective gods. Hellspawn like Celeste dared not invade openly, as it would incur the wrath of the heavens.
Heavenly gods and the fallen gods of hell were mortal enemies. Even if other monsters attacked a protected empire, it wouldn’t provoke divine retribution. But if demons from hell set foot there, the heavens wouldn’t stand idle.
This was why, when Veronica summoned Lucifer, the archangel Gabriel immediately targeted her.
Hearing this, Lily nodded gravely. “Then, Lord Celeste, I’ll begin. Watch closely, and feel it out carefully.”
With that, she leaned in for a kiss.
In the next instant, Celeste appeared like a phantom several meters behind Lily, her expression startled. “What… what are you doing?”
Lily, having kissed nothing but air, was equally confused. “I was going to start with something simple! Don’t underestimate a kiss; there are many subtle techniques involved.”
“Are you… are you suggesting a p-practical demonstration? Absolutely not!” Celeste replied, flustered.
“Thud!”
At once, Lily dropped to her knees. “My apologies, my Lord! I assumed… I am so sorry!”
Celeste hesitated, then sighed. “That’s not what I meant. Stand up. I’m just… embarrassed, that’s all. Just teach me verbally. I can pass it on to the Goblin King myself.”
“Oh… alright, no problem.” Lily let out a sigh of relief.
Then, she carefully explained everything in detail and handed Celeste a handwritten booklet. “My Lord, this book has many illustrations and thorough explanations. You can study it on your own. I learned these from other senior succubi, and this is the only copy.”
“Thank you. I’ll treasure it,” Celeste replied, dazed and wiping her nosebleed.
The information Lily had shared was incredibly intense—an entirely new world for her.
Watching her reaction, Lily felt a bit awkward. “You’re the kindest high demon I’ve ever met, Lord Celeste.”
“Well, I’ll be on my way then.”
Once she’d composed herself, Celeste went to find Lin Tian.
…
Inside the private room, Lin Tian was busy fiddling with a special little toy crafted by the succubi, marveling to himself, “Damn, this is the life! I’d been missing out.”
Even with countless stunning beauties at his side, he had to admit that no amount of companionship could match the simple pleasure these gadgets brought.
At that moment, Celeste opened the door, stepping in slowly. “My dear Goblin King~ I’m here.”
She’d put a lot of effort into sounding like a proper succubus, concerned that if Lin Tian discovered she was a high demon, he’d throw her out. She hadn’t realized that Lin Tian’s empire was merely a kingdom of monsters with no divine protections.
“You’re here. So, how about it? Can you tell me now? I’ll still pay for it,” Lin Tian said, discreetly stashing the little gadgets back into his spatial ring.
Celeste barely noticed. “Yes, I….”
But as she recalled everything Lily had just explained to her, she couldn’t help feeling embarrassed again, a trickle of crimson nosebleed appearing once more. Flustered, she quickly wiped it away.
Regret filled her mind—if only she’d let another succubus handle this from the start instead of insisting she knew everything herself. Now, she had no choice but to explain it personally.
Growing a bit impatient, Lin Tian asked, “Are you ready? And why are you getting a nosebleed? Been feeling overheated lately?”
…
In Christianity, I believe Satan is the only devil, whereas all his fallen angel underlings are considered devils. However in some RPGs, devils are instead the followers of Satan whereas demons are another race entirely. But in this novel the author seems a bit more unfamiliar and doesn’t really make an attempt to distinguish the two in his world building, using the Christian setting.
