Chapter 3: The Counselor Has a Boyfriend?
TL: YYang
“Watch your language. I was just reminding that big brother to take care of his health and act within his limits.”
Shen Yuan typed with both hands and hit send, only to be met with a red exclamation mark in the next second.
“Message sent, but rejected by the recipient.”
“Was it necessary to block me? How will you contact me if you miss me in the future?”
Seeing the bright red exclamation mark, Shen Yuan shook his head and then started the process of cashing out.
Shen Yuan’s Jiebei had a limit of 20,000 yuan, his remaining Huabei limit was 9,200, his JD Baitiao limit was 12,000, and he had a credit card with a remaining limit of 11,000. This meant he could cash out a total of 52,200 yuan.
He had a friend on WeChat who specialized in cashing out, charging a 3% fee. This meant that for a 10,000 yuan limit, he would get 9,700 in hand.
The fee was a bit high, but when Shen Yuan thought about how his principal could generate a 200% return, he didn’t mind.
He found a friend with the nickname “AAA Da Zhe” in his contact list and clearly stated his needs. The other party immediately sent over Alipay and JD payment codes. After scanning and paying 9,200 + 12,000, the other party quickly transferred 19,400 over.
“The credit card needs to be swiped with a physical card on a POS machine. Are you in a hurry for the money? You can come over to the IFC. My shop is right across from it.”
Da Zhe sent a message, along with a location pin.
The International Finance Center was a famous shopping mall in Star City, with a rich variety of luxury brand stores. Seeing those words, Shen Yuan felt a bit dazed. He used to be a frequent customer at the IFC, but now he was going there to cash out.
Since he wasn’t in a hurry, Shen Yuan chose a low-carbon mode of travel. After an hour-long bus ride, he arrived at the IFC.
Da Zhe’s shop was a small mobile phone repair store. When Shen Yuan entered, Da Zhe was hunched over, disassembling a phone. He looked to be in his thirties, with an unremarkable appearance.
After Shen Yuan explained his purpose, Da Zhe connected the young man before him with the person he had just chatted with on WeChat. Without much fuss, he took out a POS machine and had Shen Yuan swipe his card.
“It’s best to make two transactions, and you should leave a few hundred or a thousand yuan on the credit card. That way, the card is less likely to be frozen.”
“Okay.”
Shen Yuan nodded. Professionals really knew their business.
The card had a limit of 11,000 yuan. He swiped two transactions totaling 10,500, and after deducting the fee, he received 10,185, leaving a 500 yuan limit on the card.
In total, he got 29,585 from cashing out, plus the 20,000 that had just arrived from Jiebei, and the 99 yuan in his WeChat wallet. Shen Yuan now had 49,684 yuan on hand.
If he spent all this money, he could get nearly 100,000 yuan in cash back at once.
Shen Yuan was calculating what to buy with this money when Da Zhe, behind the counter, saw that he hadn’t left and added casually, “I can also help you with loans if you need them.”
Shen Yuan’s mouth twitched. “I don’t think I’ll need that, thanks.”
Da Zhe looked up and sized up the young man. “You never know,” he said faintly.
He had been in this business for seven or eight years and had dealt with all sorts of people. Young people like this hadn’t formed mature spending habits yet. Suddenly cashing out so much money was definitely not for a good reason. He wouldn’t be surprised if the money was gone in a few days and the kid came back to him for a loan.
For him, the commission on consumer loans and small loans was much higher than the commission on cashing out.
Faced with Da Zhe’s words, Shen Yuan felt a bit helpless. He couldn’t tell him about the almighty system. Even if he did, the guy would probably think he was an idiot.
With that thought, he didn’t argue with Da Zhe and continued to ponder his spending plan.
Currently, the only female he knew with a favorability over 60 was Teacher Li Xiao. Shen Yuan planned to continue focusing his spending power on her.
Quickly spending 50,000 on Teacher Li Xiao wasn’t that simple. With her personality, she definitely wouldn’t accept expensive gifts from a student, especially since in her mind, Shen Yuan was already a poor student from a bankrupt family. She would surely be even more resistant.
But after some thought, he realized there was always a way.
Half an hour later, Shen Yuan walked out of the main entrance of the IFC carrying an LV shopping bag. Just moments ago, he had swiped away more than half of his money at the LV counter. He now had only 9,884 yuan left.
The bag in the shopping bag was worth 39,800 yuan, an LV spring collection piece. As for why he bought a spring model when the summer collection was already out, Shen Yuan had his reasons.
Carrying the LV shopping bag, Shen Yuan prepared to go to the bus stop. At that moment, Da Zhe, who was smoking at the entrance of his shop across the street, happened to see the LV bag in Shen Yuan’s hand. He snorted in disdain. “What a spendthrift!”
Shen Yuan was completely unaware of Da Zhe’s contempt. He first took an hour-long bus ride, then weaved through streets and alleys to a plain residential building.
This residential building had eight floors and was a self-built structure. Teacher Li Xiao lived on the sixth floor.
Normally, Shen Yuan wouldn’t know his teacher’s home address, but as luck would have it, the apartment his family rented was on the fifth floor of this very building.
One day, when Shen Yuan was going home for dinner, he happened to run into Li Xiao on the stairs and found out she lived right above him.
Shen Yuan first threw the shopping bag into a nearby trash can, then tore off the price tag and carried the bag upstairs.
“Knock, knock.”
Shen Yuan gently knocked on the door of 601. Even through the door, he could faintly smell a light fragrance from inside, a unique scent of a refined woman’s home.
“I wonder if Teacher Li has a boyfriend. It would be awkward if he’s at home.”
“A male student visiting alone with a bag… it just doesn’t seem right no matter how you think about it.”
There had been the clattering of kitchenware from inside the room. Hearing the knock, the person inside walked to the door and opened it. “You didn’t bring your key…”
“Shen Yuan, why is it you?”
Li Xiao looked at Shen Yuan in surprise. She was wearing a pink apron, holding a spatula in her right hand, and her forehead was dotted with fine beads of sweat.
In the afternoon, Li Xiao had been an understanding female teacher, but now, cooking, she had an added touch of domesticity, looking like a newlywed wife.
“Counselor, sorry to bother you. Are you cooking?”
Shen Yuan had an innocent smile on his face, but his mind was on something else. Just now, Li Xiao had thought a family member had come home without a key, and her tone was very casual. It was highly likely she already had a live-in boyfriend.
Damn it, what a pity. I wonder which bastard got so lucky!
While Shen Yuan was thinking about things that had nothing to do with him, even treating the man as an imaginary rival, Li Xiao was looking at him with some confusion. Although they lived on adjacent floors, they had never visited each other. To avoid gossip, a female teacher and a male student shouldn’t have too frequent contact. So, what was he doing here? Then she noticed the bag in his hand and asked, puzzled, “Shen Yuan, it’s so late. Is something wrong?”
“Counselor, you’ve taken good care of me for three years in college. I used to think it was a teacher’s duty to do these things, but with everything that’s happened to my family recently, I’ve slowly come to understand the help from people around me. So, I should have thanked you long ago.”
Shen Yuan held up the bag with both hands and said sincerely, “This is a small token of appreciation from a student. You must accept it.”
“No, no.”
Looking at the bag, which seemed quite valuable, Li Xiao quickly shook her head. “Actually, you were right before. As your counselor and your teacher, it’s my duty to do these things. It’s part of my job; there’s no special care involved. I treat all students the same, so there’s no need for this.”
Over the past three years, seeing her students transform from naive high school graduates into mature adults about to enter society, Li Xiao felt a great sense of accomplishment and that her efforts had been worthwhile.
Especially Shen Yuan, who seemed to have suddenly grown up. As his counselor, she suddenly felt very gratified.
But that was all. She absolutely could not accept the gift, especially since the bag looked expensive.
